TOWSON, Md. – The Houston Astros have selected the contract of former Tiger
Ethan Pecko from the club's Triple A affiliate, the Sugar Land Space Cowboys, and added him to the 40-man roster. He will join the active roster prior to tonight's game, a move announced by the team on Wednesday.
Pecko is slated to make his Major League debut tonight against the Los Angeles Angels at 8:10 p.m. EDT at Daikin Park
In four seasons in the Astros system, the right-handed pitcher has amassed 11 wins, a 4.08 ERA, 323 strikeouts and two saves in 273.2 innings pitched. He boasts a 3.20 K/BB ratio and a .241 opponent batting average in 72 appearances (55 starts) and has started at least 15 games in each of the last three seasons.
Pecko had his best minor league season in 2024, when he went 4-6 with a 3.47 ERA and 125 strikeouts in 96.0 innings pitched across three levels, earning him the 2024 Astros Minor League Pitcher of the Year award.
The Pennsylvania native was selected in the sixth round (194 overall) of the 2023 MLB Draft and quickly rose within the ranks of Houston's system.
Pecko ascended to Low-A Fayetteville after his first three rookie ball appearances in 2023. By the end of his second season, he was with the club's Double A affiliate, the Corpus Christi Hooks.
In two seasons with the Black & Gold,
Pecko posted a 2-5 record, a 4.37 ERA and 64 strikeouts over 59.2 innings. He went 2-2 with a 3.43 ERA and 48 strikeouts over 42.0 innings in 11 starts as a junior before being selected in the 2023 MLB Draft that July.
Pecko's call-up marks the second former Tiger on an active Major League Baseball (MLB) roster, along with
Richie Palacios of the Tampa Bay Rays. He is the fifth Tiger to reach the majors behind
Palacios,
Casper Wells,
Chris Nabholz and
Al Rubeling.
