TOWSON, Md. - Towson Lacrosse alumni Casey Cittadino ('06) and the Charlotte Hounds and Joe Smith ('04), Will Harrington ('10) and the Ohio Machine all picked up wins this weekend in Major League Lacrosse (MLL).
A 14-11 win over the Hamilton Nationals (9-4) coupled with a Chesapeake Bayhawks loss to the Rochester Rattlers gave Cittadino and the Hounds their first play-off berth. At 7-6 overall (with one regular season game remaining), Charlotte boasts the program's first winning record. The Hounds had to come back from a 5-1 deficit in a frenzied first quarter for the win.
Smith, Harrington and the Machine ended the Boston Cannons' (5-8) play-off hopes with a 16-12 win at Harvard Stadium in Cambridge, Mass. The Machine led from start to finish, holding off the Cannons each time they started a rally and shutting out MLL points leader Paul Rabil. Former Tiger volunteer assistant coach Chad Wiedmaier picked up four ground balls for Ohio in the win.
The Hounds finish out the regular season by traveling to the Bayhawks on August 10 at 7 p.m. EST. The Machine play its final game of 2013 at James M. Shuart Stadium against the NY Lizards, also on August 10 at 7 p.m. EST.
