Tigers Fall to SJU 1-0 on Sunday

MERION STATION, Pa. - The Saint Joseph's University field hockey team earned its first victory of the season on Sunday, defeating the Towson University Tigers by a score of 1-0.

In the midst of a six-game road trip, Towson (1-5) suffered its third one-goal loss of the season and was unable to generate many offensive chances against the stingy Hawks defense.

Saint Joseph's (1-5) scored the game's lone goal when Melanie Colozzi scored her first goal of the season off of a rebound in front of the Tiger goal 22:31 into the first half.

The Tiger offense was not able to find a rhythm as they were held to just six shots by Saint Joseph's. Freshman Sam Zelenack led Towson with three shots. She is tied with Kathleen Morris for the team lead in goals with two this season.

Offensively for the Hawks, they tallied 13 shots, including three from Marin Vreeburg and Nicole Gerdes

Goalkeeper Rachel Barnett made three saves in the win for Saint Joseph's to earn her first shutout.

The Tigers continue their road trip on Friday at Rider beginning at 7 p.m.
