Rider Defeats Tigers on Friday Night, 4-0

LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. - Freshman goalkeeper Megan Boyle made her first career start in net for the Towson University field hockey team on Friday night, but the Rider Broncs dealt the Tigers a 4-0 loss at Ben Cohen Field.

Boyle made 11 saves in an admirable effort for the Tigers (1-6), but the Broncs were clicking both offensively and on defense to thwart the Towson effort.

Rider scored its first goal just 2:02 into the game when Sandra Penas scored the first of her tallies on the night on a blast from the left side after getting a pass from Alsina Clotet.

The Broncs added their second goal with 11 minutes remaining in the opening period when Laura McCormick scored her first goal of the season to give her team a 2-0 lead that they carried into halftime.

The second half was better offensively for the Tigers, as they recorded all three of their shots for the game. Kelsey Jenkens, Sam Zelenack and Kathleen Morris would all attempt to get the Tigers on the board. But Rider goalkeeper Dorothy Von Ahnen would did not allow the Tigers to score, stopping all three shots and keeping the game firmly in favor of the Broncs.

Kalyn O'Brien and Penas added goals in the second half for Rider, which improved to 5-1 this season.

Towson next faces Monmouth on the road Sunday for a match beginning at noon.
