Tigers Release 2013-14 Women's Basketball Schedule

TOWSON, Md. – The first basketball game in SECU Arena and a pair of match-ups with Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) opponents highlight the 2013-14 Towson University women's basketball schedule, head coach Niki Reid Geckeler announced. The Tigers will play a total of 29 games, 13 of which are non-conference contests.

“We have a very competitive out-of-conference schedule that will prepare us for the various coaching styles and tempos of the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA),” said Reid Geckeler. “I'm very excited for us to be playing some local teams, which gives us the chance to help grow the women's game in the Baltimore area.”

Towson kicks off its 2013-14 season when it hosts Navy on Friday, Nov. 8. The game with the Midshipmen will be part of a doubleheader to kick off the basketball season. Navy is one of three opponents on the Tigers' schedule that advanced to the postseason last year. The Midshipmen won the Patriot League and advanced to the NCAA Tournament.

The Tigers will have a quick turnaround for their next contest as they travel to North Carolina State on Monday, Nov. 11. It will be the first meeting between the Tigers and the Wolfpack, who advanced to the WNIT last year.

Towson returns home on Saturday, Nov. 16 to host Manhattan. Ciara Webb's three-pointer in the final seconds of overtime led the Tigers to the 63-60 victory over the Jaspers in last year's opener. Towson will face a familiar foe on Tuesday, Nov. 19 in former fellow CAA member George Mason.

The Tigers return to SECU Arena for a two-game home stand starting Saturday, Nov. 23 with national power Maryland. The Terps advanced to the Sweet Sixteen last season after going 26-8. The Tigers then face local foe UMBC on Tuesday, Nov. 26 in the first game of a doubleheader.

Towson takes to the road to begin December with trips to Bucknell (Dec. 4) and George Washington (Dec. 7). The Tigers return to SECU Arena on Monday, Dec. 9 to host Long Island. The two squads met for the first time last season and battled in an overtime thriller. Towson then hits the road to visit local foe, Morgan State on Wednesday, Dec. 18.

The Tigers make their longest road trip of the season when they head to Maine on Dec. 21. Last season, the Tigers and Black Bears met for the first time since both squads were in the America East, and the Tigers earned their first win in the series. Towson closes out the 2013 calendar year by hosting Loyola (Md.) on Saturday, Dec. 28. The Tigers have won six of the last seven meetings against the Greyhounds.

Towson finishes its non-conference play with a road trip to Coppin State on January 4.

The CAA schedule kicks off on Thursday, Jan. 9 when Towson heads to Long Island for a match-up with Hofstra.

Other road CAA contests for the Tigers are: College of Charleston (Jan. 23), William & Mary (Jan. 26), Northeastern (Feb. 4), James Madison (Feb. 9), Delaware (Feb. 16), UNCW (Feb. 23) and Drexel (March 5).
