BALTIMORE, Md. – The Towson University women's basketball team went 5-for-8 from the foul line in the final minute to hold off a late charge by UMBC and claim the 59-54 win on Tuesday night. Towson Head Coach

"We made it interesting at the end, we're figuring out how to win and any type of win you can get on the road this time of year, your happy about," said Reid Geckeler. "
LaTorri Hines-Allen was amazing. She's one of the top players in our conference and she's playing well right now.
Ciara Webb was a catalyst tonight, she hustles and gives you 50-50 plays and that's important. At the end we told the kids to stay true to our philosophy, get a stop and a rebound."
UMBC (3-2) scored the opening basket of the game on a layup from
Pandora Wilson at 17:27. The Tigers (2-2) responded by scoring the next 12 points and took the 10 point lead with 13:49 to go in the half. Redshirt senior forward

Camille Alberson each had three points during that stretch. A free throw by the Retrievers briefly halted the Towson run before the Tigers used a 6-2 scoring spurt to extend their lead to 18-5 with 8:39 remaining in the half. Hines-Allen had four of the Tigers' six. The two teams battled down the stretch as back-to-back three-pointers from senior guard
Ciara Webb gave Towson a 24-9 advantage with 5:33 to go in the half. Alberson hit a jumper at 3:52 which gave Towson a 28-9 lead, it was Towson's largest lead of the game. The two teams traded baskets in the final three minutes of the half.
Capree Garner hit a jumper with two seconds to go which made it 29-17 at the intermission.
The 17 points allowed by the Tigers in the first half was the lowest point total surrendered by the Tigers in a half since they held Northeastern to 19 in the first half last February 4.
Hines-Allen had eight points and nine rebounds in the first half for the Tigers while Webb added eight points and six rebounds.
UMBC opened the second half on a 10-7 run and cut the Tiger lead to nine, 36-27 with 15:49 to play. Four straight points from junior guard
Dominique Johnson pushed the Tiger lead back to 13, 40-27 with 15:05 remaining in the game. Eight straight points from UMBC pulled the home team to within five, 40-35 with 9:52 to play. Garner had a three-pointer during that stretch for the Retrievers. Redshirt freshman forward
Jordyn Smith broke a scoreless streak of over five minutes for the Tigers with her jumper at 9:41. The Towson lead fluctuated between six and 11 points over the next four minutes. Freshman guard
Breonn Hughey hit one-of-two from the foul line at 2:28 and that gave Towson a 53-41 lead. The two teams continued to battle on each end of the court.
Garner drained a triple with 56 seconds to play, which pulled UMBC to within one, 54-53. Towson turned the ball over on the next position but UMBC was unable to convert the opportunity. The Tigers made a few key foul shots in the final minute. Hines-Allen and Hughey each made two while senior guard
Markell Smith connected on one to help the Tigers seal the 59-54 victory.
Towson 32.7% from the floor in the game and made 20-of-32 chances from the foul line. UMBC shot 27.9% from the field and 57.1% (16-28) from the charity stripe. Towson won the rebounding battle 47-44.
Hines-Allen turned in a dominant performance for her third straight double-double. She had 18 points and a career-high 18 rebounds while also contributing two assists, two blocks and a steal. Webb posted 10 points and six rebounds while Smith finished with nine points and nine rebounds. Hughey had seven points and dished out seven assists.
Garner finished with a game-high 20 points and six rebounds for UMBC.
Towson is back in action on Friday, Nov. 28 for the opening day of the LIU Brooklyn Tournament. The Tigers face Rhode Island at 4:30 p.m. that day.
