La Salle Earns 62-49 Win over the Tigers

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – Despite a career-high 29 points from redshirt senior forward LaTorri Hines-Allen, the Towson University women's basketball team fell to La Salle University, 62-49 in the final game of the LIU Turkey Classic on Saturday evening.

The two teams battled early as Hines-Allen's lay-up at 13:49 made it a 7-6 game in favor of the Explorers (4-2). Back-to-back baskets gave La Salle an 11-6 lead with 12:28 to play in the half. Towson scored 12 of the next 20 points and trailed the Explorers by one, 19-18 with 5:01 remaining in the first stanza. Freshman guard Breonn Hughey scored five of the Tigers' 12 during that stretch. La Salle closed the half on a 12-1 run and took a 31-19 lead at the break. Jasmine Alston led the Explorers with four points during that run.

La Salle shot 44.8% from the field to the Tigers' 20.8% in the first half. Towson (2-4) made 8-of-10 from the foul line in the first half. La Salle held a slim 19-18 edge in the rebounding battle.

La Salle scored 15 of the first 24 points in the second half and took a 46-28 lead with 13:17 to play in the game. Micahya Owens had four points for the Explorers during that stretch. The 18-point advantage was La Salle's largest of the game. Hines-Allen hit a pair of jumpers that started a 17-6 run by the Tigers. That scoring stretch allowed the Tigers to cut the La Salle lead to seven, 52-45 with 5:39 to play in the game. Hines-Allen tallied 12 of the Tigers' 17 points during that stretch. However, La Salle's Owens hit a three-pointer at 4:40 that sent the Explorers on a 10-4 run to close out the game and seal the 62-49 victory.

Towson 34.5% from the field in the second half and 28.3% for the game. The Tigers were aided by going 10-for-11 from the foul line in the second half and finished the game shooting 85.7% from the line. La Salle shot 36.7% from the field in the second half and 40.7% for the game. The Tigers outrebounded the Explorers 39-35.

In addition to her career-high in points, Hines-Allen had 12 rebounds for her fourth double-double of the year. Junior guard Dominique Johnson added eight points and two rebounds while senior guard Markell Smith had five points and seven rebounds.

Alston led La Salle with 18 points and five rebounds while Owens had 10 points and six rebounds.

Towson is back in action on Tuesday, Dec. 2 when it travels to Navy for a 7 p.m. game.
