TOWSON, Md. - The Towson women's soccer team opens the 2014 season against UMass on Friday, August 22 at 4:30 p.m. in the first round of the James Madison Invitational.
Senior co-captain
Katie Ponce is Towson's returning top scorer. She started 16 of 19 games and scored five goals with one assist for 11 points. Right behind her is converted defensive back and 2014 co-captain
Sofia Read, who posted three goals and five assists for 11 points in 2013. Senior
Erin Quinn minds the net for the Tigers. She made 93 saves (.782 save percentage) and allowed 26 goals for a 1.41 goals-against average (GAA).
The Minutemen were an Atlantic 10 (A-10) tournament runners-up in 2013 after recording a 7-9-4 (3-3-2) regular season mark. UMass average just over one goal per game as a team, taking 15.0 shots per game. The Minutemen were virtually even with their opponents in corner kicks earned (84-85) and assists (22-21).
Sophomore
Megan Burke is UMass' lead returner. She started all 20 games in 2013 and totaled three goals and three assists for nine points. Junior
Jackie Bruno is another offensive threat for the Minutemen. A 2013 team captain, she had two goals and three assists for seven points. Redshirt sophomore
Danielle Kriscenski returns in net. She earned a spot on the 2013 A-10 All-Tournament team. Kriscenski started all 20 games, logging 1937:54 minutes and allowing 24 goals (1.11 GAA). She made 92 saves and recorded five shutouts.
The Tigers return to action on Sunday, August 24 at 11:30 a.m. against Xavier in the concluding round of the tournament.
