STORYLINES
•Towson puts its 12-game road winning streak on the line Saturday at West Virginia. The Tigers have not lost on the road since October 6, 2012. Towson won its final three games away from home in 2012 and then went 9-0, including a pair of Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) playoff wins, on the road in 2013.
•The last time the Tigers played an FBS school, they came away victorious. Towson began last season with a 33-18 win at the University of Connecticut on August 29, 2013. The year before that, the Tigers were extremely competitive while falling at then-No. 3 LSU. With three minutes remaining in the first half, Towson led LSU before eventually falling, 38-22.
•West Virginia is coming off a 33-23 loss to second-ranked Alabama in the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game last Saturday.
Sensational Sophomore
•Sophomore running back Darius Victor, who was the 2013 CAA Offensive Rookie of the Year while backing up Terrance West, tied his career-high with 105 rushing yards in his first career start against Central Connecticut last Saturday.
•Victor, who actually averaged more yards per carry (6.4) last season than West (6.1), also scored his first touchdown of the season and eighth of his career in the season opener.
More on the Opener
•Towson began its 2014 campaign with a 31-27 setback against Central Connecticut. The Blue Devils scored the go-ahead touchdown with 36 seconds remaining.
•Making his first career start at quarterback, junior Connor Frazier rushed for 80 yards and two touchdowns. His career-long 49-yard rushing TD in the fourth quarter gave Towson a 27-24 lead.
•Seven different Tigers hauled in a catch on Saturday. Senior Derrick Joseph led the way with five receptions while tight end Tanner Vallely had a pair of grabs for 30 yards and a touchdown.
•Redshirt freshman linebacker James Simms made his impact known in his first game in a Tiger uniform. He led the team with 14 tackles, including one for a loss, and registered a game-high two quarterback hurries. Senior Ryan Delaire made 11 tackles and recorded Towson's only sack of the game for a six-yard loss.
In the National Rankings
•Towson fell to No. 19 in the NCAA FCS Coaches Poll and No. 22 in the Sports Network/Fathead.com FCS Top 25 Poll, which were both released on Monday.
•After one week of play, Towson ranks Top 15 in the FCS in four categories: Turnover Margin (+1/12th), Red Zone Offense (100%/T1), Kickoff return average (26.4 yards/12th) and fewest penalties per game (4, T13).
Quick Strike Offense
•Towson's four touchdown drives against Central Connecticut lasted a total of 7:40. That's an average of a TD every 1:55 during Towson's scoring drives.
Scouting the Opponent
•West Virginia is coming off a impressive performance down in Atlanta last Saturday when the Mountaineers fell 33-23 to No. 2 Alabama in the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game.
•WVU Quarterback Clint Trickett completed 29 of 45 passes for a career-high 365 yards with one touchdown. Trickett's 365 yards passing were the 17th-most in school history.
•Mountaineer senior Kevin White put up an impressive nine-catch, 143-yard, one-touchdown performance against Alabama's touted secondary, and senior Mario Alford flashed his speed by returning a second quarter kickoff 100 yards for a touchdown.
•The Mountaineer offense managed to produce 393 total yards against an Alabama defense that came into the game holding its opponents to less than 300 yards 64 percent of the time under coach Nick Saban.
