BOX SCORE TOWSON, Md. - In the teams' first meeting, Fairfield (4-1) defeated the Towson women's soccer team (1-3-1), 1-0, Friday afternoon at Tiger Soccer Complex.
Towson struggled to start in the first half and were unable to register a shot. Ten minutes into the contest, the Stags'
Anna Borea received a pass from
Karolyn Collins and scored from eight yards out for the game-winning goal. Fairfield had earned a free kick five yards outside the 18-yard box prior to the goal.
"We came out very flat against a good Fairfield attack,"said Head Coach
Greg Paynter. "We have to come out and play with some energy [on Tuesday against Radford]."
The Tigers turned up the pressure midway through the second half, getting good scoring chances from
Katie Ponce and
Hollie Garber. Towson outshot Fairfield 6-4 in the final frame. Senior goalkeeper
Erin Quinn came up big for the Tigers with under three minutes left when Fairfield's
Ashley Small went one-on-one with Quinn, who came off her line and blocked Small's shot.
The Tigers return to action on Tuesday, September 9 when they host Radford at 4 p.m.
