BOX SCORE LORETTO, Pa. – Towson University sophomore
Morgan Skavdahl scored her first career goal but it was not enough as St. Francis (3-0) edged Towson (0-3) by a final score of 5-1 on Sunday afternoon.
St. Francis took an early lead in the contest as
Carissa Makea scored on a penalty corner with help from
Nikki Snyder at the seven minute mark.
The Red Flash outshot the Tigers 11-2 in the first half as sophomore
Megan Boyle made six first-half saves.
St. Francis extended their lead late in the second half as
Autumn Pellman recorded an unassisted goal in the 59
th minute. Makea would add two goals to record a hat trick in the game and give the Red Flash a 4-0 lead over the Tigers.
Skavdahl would cut St. Francis' lead back to three as she scored her first career goal for the Tigers on a pass from junior
Stacey Mackintosh in the 66
th minute of the game.
Shannon Pereira would provide the final margin of victory for the Red Flash.
The Red Flash outshot the Tigers 15-2 in the second half as St. Francis finished with a 26-4 advantage. The Red Flash had a 15-2 advantage over the Tigers in penalty corners.
Samantha Zeiders recorded two saves for St. Francis to earn the win.
Boyle made eight second-half saves to finish the game with 13 saves for the Tigers.
The Tigers return to action on September 13 as they travel to College Park, Md. to face American at 1 p.m.
