Tigers Begin CAA Tournament Run Saturday Night

And So It Begins: The Tiger volleyball team begins it's Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Championship run on Saturday, Nov. 21 at 7:30 p.m. The No. 2 Tigers will face either No. 3 UNC Wilmington or No. 6 William & Mary in Harrisonburg, Virginia. Links to live stats and video can be found on the schedule page of TowsonTigers.com. Fans can also follow the Tigers on Twitter (@Towson_VB) and on Instagram (@TowsonTigersVB).

The Second Season Begins: Towson makes its second straight appearance in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Tournament. The Tigers will be making their 10th appearance overall in the tournament since joining the league in time for the 2002 season. Towson's best performance in the CAA Tournament came in 2004 when the Tigers won the league and advanced to the NCAA Tournament. Towson will be looking for its first CAA Tournament win since 2005 when they advanced to the CAA Championship match.

I'm Honored: After a strong performance in the regular season, the Tigers were well rewarded as the league announced its all-conference teams on Thursday night. Freshman right side hitter Jocelyn Kuilan became the third player in program history to earn CAA Rookie of the Year accolades. Redshirt freshman libero/defensive specialist Anna Holehouse became Towson's first CAA Defensive Player of the Year. Tiger head coach Don Metil was named the CAA Co-Coach of the Year, it was his second straight year taking home that award. Junior outside hitter Jessica Lewis was named first team All-CAA. Kuilan and senior outside hitter Haley Pa'akaula picked up second team All-CAA accolades. Holehouse took home third team All-CAA honors while she and Kuilan were both named to the CAA All-Rookie squad. Redshirt senior Aimee Schubert was a CAA All-Academic honoree.

Against Our Opponents: Towson will face either UNC Wilmington or William & Mary on Saturday night in the CAA semifinals. The Tigers split the season series with UNCW this year and earned a pair of wins against the Tribe. The Tigers have never faced UNCW in the CAA Tournament. Towson is 1-0 against William & Mary in the playoffs having earned a 3-1 win when the two squads met in the semifinals in 2005.

Killer Attack: Freshman Jocelyn Kuilan has been a key reason the Tigers have found success this season. Kuilan currently leads the team with 415 kills this season (3.46 kills per set). She is the 11th player in program history and first freshman to record over 400 kills in a single-season. Kuilan enters the CAA Tournament ranked fifth in the CAA for kills per set.

Piling Up the Wins: Towson enters the CAA Tournament with a record of 26-5 and 12-4 in CAA play. The 26 wins this season are tied for the sixth most in school history. The Tigers recorded their 18th season with 20 or more wins. The 12 conference wins are the seventh most in program history.

Welcome to the Block Party: One of the keys to success for the TIgers this season has been their ability to record 10 or more team blocks in a match. The Tigers are 5-1 this year when they record 10 or more team blocks. Towson's only loss this season when it recorded 10 or more team blocks was when the Tigers had a season-high 12 team blocks at Hofstra. Overall, the Tigers are 16-5 under head coach Don Metil when they record 10 or more team blocks.

Can You Dig It? One constant for the Tigers this season has been the play of redshirt freshman Anna Holehouse to anchor the Tiger defense. Holehouse has 557 digs (4.81 digs per set) this season. She currently ranks second in single-season history at Towson for digs. She is the fourth player in program history to record over 500 digs in a single-season. Holehouse has a pair of 30 dig matches this season. She is the fourth player in program history and first freshman to accomplish that feat.

Up Next: The winner of the match on Saturday night will face the winner of the other semifinal (JMU vs. Hofstra/College of Charleston) in the championship match on Sunday at 12 noo.
