NFL Scouting Combine WebsiteINDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Towson University football All-America selections
Ryan Delaire and
Tye Smith have accepted invitations to take part in the National Football League (NFL) Scouting Combine, which runs February 17-23 in Indianapolis. The entire combine will be televised live on the NFL Network.
Towson joins reigning national champion North Dakota State and Chattanooga as the only Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) teams with more than one player representing their Universities at the combine.
"Having two student-athletes attend the NFL combine speaks volumes as to how hard these young men have worked in the name of our institution and how far we have come as a program," said Towson Head Coach
Rob Ambrose. "Ryan and Tye have earned a great honor and I am excited for them and their futures."
The NFL Scouting Combine will include over 300 of the top college football players in the country. Top executives, coaching staffs, player personnel departments, and medical personnel from all 32 NFL teams will be on hand to evaluate the nation's top college football players eligible for the upcoming NFL Draft.
Delaire will arrive in Indianapolis with the other defensive linemen on February 19. Smith will begin his combine workouts the following day. Each player will be in Indianapolis for four days going through various measurements, medical examinations, interviews with the media and teams, on-field workouts and much more.
Delaire, a two-time first team All-Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) selection, ranked second in the league and 13
th in the FCS with 11 sacks during his senior season. He also led the Tigers and ranked fifth in the CAA with 14.5 tackles for loss. A Buck Buchanan Award finalist, Delaire ranked third in the CAA among ends/linemen with 5.3 tackles per game, and his three forced fumbles ranked eighth in the league.
Smith, a 2014 first team All-CAA selection, routinely shut down one side of the field as one of the best cover corners in the nation. As the final cornerback standing on the Buck Buchanan Award Watch List earlier this season, Smith led the Tigers with eight pass break-ups. He started all 12 games during his senior season, and his 85 tackles ranked second on the team. Smith ended his career with 312 tackles, the fifth most in Tiger football history.
