Tigers Host Senior Night, Face George Washington Twice Over Weekend

TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University women's gymnastics program will welcome George Washington to SECU Arena for its final home meet of the season on Friday, March 13 at 7 p.m. The Tigers will honor their four seniors at the conclusion of the meet. That group includes Janis Konkle, Samantha Lutz, Lauren Ross and Nicolette Vignola.
 
The meet will be a "Black Out" and fans are encouraged to wear black to help support the Tigers and to receive a ticket discounted at $5.
 
Towson (10-11) is coming off a second-place finish at Brown last weekend. The Tigers recorded 193.125 at the meet to narrowly fall to the host Bears (193.400) but defeat visiting Lindenwood (192.775).
 
The Tigers recorded the highest team total on vault during the meet (48.300) where Lydia Thompson and Katie Sassa led the Tiger effort with matching 9.750 scores to finish tied for second-place.
 
Towson tied with Lindenwood for the highest team total on bars (48.525). Tyra McKellar won the event with a 9.825 total and was followed by Vicki Vesecky who tied for fifth overall (9.725).
 
Ross and Vignola had impressive showing for the Tigers, earning matching 9.825 scores. Ross finished in first-place on beam with her 9.825 while Vignola placed third on floor (9.825).
 
McKellar, in addition to winning bars, finished second on beam (9.725) and won the all-around with a 38.850 total.
 
The four Tiger seniors have been successful in their final year of competition with all of them setting or matching career-highs.
 
Konkle set a career-high on vault at Maryland's quad meet with a 9.650 score. She also tied her career-high on beam (9.800) at William & Mary.
 
Lutz set a career-high on vault with a 9.600 at the Tigers' home-opener. Since then she has tied that score twice She also set a career-high floor with a 9.800 score at New Hampshire's quad meet. Lutz has tied her career-high on bars (9.800) twice this season.
 
Ross tied her career-high beam score of 9.850 for the third time in her career.
 
Vignola set career-highs on vault with a 9.775 and on floor with a 9.875, earning both when they Tigers hosted Penn.
 
Towson will wrap up the regular season on Sunday, March 15 when the Tigers travel to Washington, D.C. to face George Washington at 1 p.m. This will be the second meeting of the weekend between the Tigers and Colonials.
