Women's Golf Finishes Second at Monterey Bay Invitational

MONTEREY BAY, Calif. -- Despite improving its team score for the second straight day, the Towson women's golf team was surpassed by Seattle University and had to settle for second-place at the 2015 Monterey Bay Invitational, which concluded on Tuesday afternoon.

Larissa Spiess, Mackenzie Rice and Emma Hjarne all shot identical 78's during the final round, marking the best round of the tournament for each. Krissy Unger matched her best round of the tournament with a 79 to give the Tigers a 313 team score during the final day of play. Towson finished with a 946 (318-315-313) 54-hole team score.

Seattle (326-309-303=938) made a big charge on the final day to take home the team title. After an opening round 326, the Redhawks bounced back with a 309 on Monday and a final round 303 on Tuesday to finish eight strokes ahead of the Tigers.

Cal State Bakersfield (980), Western Illinois (1005), Drake (1009) and Whittier College (1025) round out the team scoring.

Spiess and Rice each shot 238 for the tournament to tie for fourth-place in the 39-player field. Hjarne carded 239 to tie for seventh, while Hios (240) tied for ninth and Unger (241) finished 11th.

The Tigers return to action March 20-22 at the Low Country Intercollegiate in Hilton Head, South Carolina.
