Offense Erupts For 20 Runs in Victory Over Delaware State

DOVER, Del. – The Towson offense erupted for 20 runs on 21 hits in a 20-7 victory over Delaware State Tuesday afternoon at Soldier Field.

The 20 runs and 21 hits are the most for the Tigers since they scored 20 runs on 23 hits in a 20-13 victory over William & Mary in the semifinals of the CAA Tournament May 24, 2013.

Towson (3-18) scored at least one run in eight of the nine innings.  The Tigers had 15 different players get an at-bat in the game, with 12 of them collecting a hit.

Sophomore Brady Policelli led the attack by going 4-for-6 with a pair of doubles, three runs scored and a career-best six RBIs.  He was not the only Tiger to have a big day as Brendan Butler went 3-for-5 with two RBIs.  Chris Henze, Mark Grunberg, Peter Bowles and Richie Blosser each added two hits.

Freshman Tristan Howard made his collegiate debut and went 1-for-3 with two walks, two runs scored and an RBI.

Policelli did most of his damage early in the game as he delivered a three-run double to left center in the second inning, and followed it up with a two-run single to center in the third.

Butler added a two-run single and Henze delivered a two-run double to left center as part of a six run third inning.

Howerton added to the lead in the fourth with an RBI single to left center, and then followed Blosser's two-run double with a sacrifice fly in the sixth.

Lee Lawler (1-3) earned the victory out of the bullpen as he limited the Hornets to one unearned run on two hits and five strikeouts over 4.1 innings.

The Hornets (5-12) managed just seven hits, but were aided by three Tigers errors to score their seven runs, four earned.

The Tigers return to the diamond Friday afternoon as they open a three-game series with UNC Wilmington.  The series gets underway at 3 p.m. at Schuerholz Park.
