TOWSON, Md. – Freshman Nicole Shakhnazarova earned her 18th singles win to help the Towson University women's tennis team defeat Coppin State by a score of 7-0 on Thursday afternoon. The match was the Tigers' first home match of the spring season at the Towson Center Courts.
 
"It was good to get a win at home for our first home match," Head Coach Doug Neagle said. "To win two in a row is important as we get ready to head up to Delaware. The Blue Hens are our biggest conference rival so it's nice to get wins going into that. Hopefully we can build on this confidence."
 
Towson improved to 10-8 overall with the win over the Eagles, sweeping singles play and winning the doubles point.
 
Shakhnazarova partnered with freshman Renate van Oorschodt in the only doubles match of the day. The duo had an impressive 8-0 victory over Coppin State's Carentxa Goede and Ashley Milo.
 
Shakhnazarova did not surrender a game her No. 1 singles win over the Eagles' Goede. She won the match 6-0, 6-0 for her 18^th singles win of the season.
 
van Oorschodt also earned a perfect singles win, defeating Milo 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 2 singles spot.
 
Freshman A.J. Gomer had the final singles win of the day for Towson at No. 3 singles. She earned a 6-1, 6-1 win over Coppin State's Miranda Taylor.
 
A shorthanded Coppin State squad defaulted the final three singles matches as well as two of the three doubles matches to the Tigers.
 
Towson will travel next to Delaware on Monday, April 5 for a 2 p.m. match before continuing to Bucknell on Tuesday, April 7 to face the Bison at 3:30 p.m.
