PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Towson gymnastics program finished third with 192.775 points at the Pittsburgh Quad Meet to open the 2016 season on Sunday. Eastern Michigan won the meet with 194.875 points followed by Maryland (194.400). The host Panthers finished fourth with 191.050 points.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• The Tigers opened the meet on bars as sophomore Tyra McKellar led the team with a 9.750. Sophomore Noelle Harada and freshman Mary Elle Arduino posted matching 9.700 scores.
• Sophomore Gabriella Yarussi had a team-best 9.825 on beam, a career-high that tied for fifth-place overall. Junior Bridget Steffen followed with a 9.775 that ranked tied for ninth while Arduino earned a 9.700.
• The Tigers' floor score (48.400) was the second-best team result for the event. Freshman Aysia Sharif and McKellar finished with matching 9.750 scores, tying for second overall in the event. Sophomore Katie McGrady and Arduino both earned a 9.650 score to tie for eighth-place.
• McKellar led the Tigers' effort on vault with a 9.675. Yarussi posted a 9.600 in her collegiate debut on the event.
• McKellar finished fifth in the all-around with a 38.275 total. McGrady posted a 37.825 total to finish sixth in her collegiate debut.  

 
The Tigers return to action as they travel to Ball State for a dual meet on Sunday, Jan. 17 at 1 p.m. Towson hosts North Carolina, Southern Connecticut and West Chester in its home opener on Sunday, Jan. 24 at 2 p.m. in SECU Arena.
