Old Guard Fife and Drum Corps to Perform Saturday

TOWSON, Md. – The Old Guard Fife and Drum Corps will perform at halftime of Towson's Military Appreciation Game as the men's basketball team hosts Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) foe Elon Jan. 16 at 4 p.m. at SECU Arena.
 
The Old Guard Fife and Drum Corps is one of four premier musical organizations of the United States Army.  Members perform using musical instruments and wearing uniforms similar to those used by military musicians of the Continental Army during the American Revolution.
 
The Towson athletics department will hold a ceremony to honor the family of Fallen Tiger, Army Major Robert J. Marchanti II, just prior to tipoff.  Marchanti, class of 1989, was a physical education major and a member of the wrestling team.  He was a former Baltimore County teacher who was one of two U.S. soldier killed in Kabul, Afghanistan on Feb. 25, 2012.
 
The game ball will be delivered by Sergeant First Class Mark Roark and Second Lieutenant Jack Donnelly by rapelling from the rafters of SECU Arena.
 
During the game, Towson will also recognize members of the Towson ROTC, Towson Veterans, World War II Veterans, Maryland National Guard honorees, Red Cross Volunteers and USO Volunteers.
 
Sergeant Joey Odoms will perform the National Anthem, along with the Maryland National Guard Honor Guard.  Odoms is the anthem singer for the Baltimore Ravens.  He also sang the national anthem at the Towson football military appreciation game Sept. 19 against Holy Cross.
