Towson Moves Into First Place Tie After Golden Performance

TOWSON, Md. – Sporting gold uniforms, the Towson University men's basketball team delivered a 24-carat performance in defeating Drexel, 69-50, in a Colonial Athletic Association men's basketball game at SECU Arena Saturday afternoon.

Towson (13-6 overall, 4-2 CAA) won its second consecutive contest and leaped into a six-way tie for first place in the congested CAA by getting strong efforts from many including junior Walter Foster, who blocked a career-high seven shots and William Adala Moto, who notched his third straight double-double with game-highs of 16 points and 11 rebounds. Foster's defensive dominance was the centerpiece of a maniacal presentation that was solid gold.

How It Happened
  • Towson zoomed out of the starting blocks by scoring the first nine points of the contest.
  • The Tigers limited Drexel to 12 first half points on 5-of-25 shooting.
  • Drexel opened the game by missing 18 of its first 21 shot attempts.
  • Towson never trailed in the game for the fifth time this season.
  • Leading 13-7, the Tigers grabbed control of the contest with an 11-1 burst that expanded its bulge to 24-8 with 3:16 remaining in the opening half.
  • Towson finished the first half with a flourish as John Davis and Eddie Keith II hit 3-pointers in the final two minutes.
  • Keith II's 3-pointer, which beat the first half buzzer, punctuated a memorable first half and gave the Tigers a 33-12 intermission advantage.
  • Byron Hawkins sank one of his two 3-pointers to give Towson its largest lead of the game, 47-19, with 14:47 remaining.
  • The Tigers shot 54.5 percent in the second half to finish a perfect week.
  • Towson led by double digits for the final 26 minutes.

Inside the Numbers
  • Keith II scored a career-high 14 points on 4-of-4 shooting.
  • Foster's seven blocks are the third most single-game performance in school history.
  • It was the most blocked shots by an individual since Jerrelle Benimon swatted seven against William & Mary on Jan. 19, 2013.
  • Aside from Foster and Benimon, the only other Towson players in school history to block at least seven shots in a game are Pat McKinley (nine), Tony Dixon (eight, twice), Robert Nwankwo (seven) and John James (seven).
  • In two games this week, Foster blocked 12 shots.
  • The 11 team blocks was a season-high and two shy of the school record of 13 set against George Mason in 1977.
  • Foster has three games this season with at least five blocks.
  • Adala Moto scored all of his points after intermission.
  • It's the third time this season, Adala Moto scored double-digit points in the second half.
  • Adala Moto has scored in double figures in 14 consecutive games.
  • Dominating the second half, Adala Moto finished with his fifth double-double this season and the sixth of his career.
  • For Morsell, who finished with 10 points, this was the eighth consecutive game, 13th this season and 22nd in his career scoring in double figures.
  • Hawkins finsihed with 12 points. He made both of his 3-pointers and was 5-for-8 from the field for the game.
  • Timajh Parker-Rivera moved into second-place all-time for most games played all-time with 118.
  • With 593 rebounds, Parker-Rivera is two away from moving past Steffan Bunsavage and into ninth place all-time in rebounding.

  • This was Towson's largest win over Drexel since an 81-65 victory on Feb. 23, 2002.
