Time to Hit the Road: After playing four of its last five matches at home, the Tiger volleyball team hits the road for a pair of contests this week. Towson visits Hofstra on Thursday, Oct. 6 for a 7 p.m. match and then travels to Northeastern on Saturday, Oct. 8 for a 7 p.m. match. Looking at the Tigers: Trailing 13-11 in the fifth set, the Tigers battled through nine ties to take the set and beat Elon 3-2 on Monday night. Senior
Jessica Lewis powered the Tigers with a match-high 25 kills while redshirt sophomore
Anna Holehouse posted a match-high 27 digs. Lewis is the leader of the Tiger offense with 293 kills, 197 digs, 19 service aces and a .301 hitting percentage. Sophomore
Jocelyn Kuilan is contributing 199 kills, 26 blocks and 20 service aces on the season. Freshman
Marrisa Wonders has dished out 493 helpers this season. Holehouse anchors the backline with 246 digs while senior
Lindsay Flaherty has a team-high 67 blocks.
Scouting the Opponents: Hofstra enters Thursday's match having won two straight and evening its CAA record at 2-2. The Pride are led by
Veronika Kostova who has 208 kills and 38 blocks. Reigning CAA Offensive Player of the Week
Michela Rucli has contributed 155 kills and 62 blocks while
Hannah Klemm has recorded 550 assists.
Northeastern, which enters play this week tied with the Tigers for second in the CAA standings, will host Elon on Friday before welcoming Towson on Saturday. The Huskies are led by
Jamie Bredahl who enters play this week with 189 kills, 202 digs and 30 service aces.
Gabrielle Eyl leads the defense with 343 digs while
Kristen Walding has 630 assists.
Series History: Hofstra leads the all-time series with the Tigers 42-13. The two squads split their two meetings last year with each team claiming victory on its home court.
Saturday's contest will be the 33rd all-time meeting between the Tigers and Huskies. Northeastern leads the series, 19-14. The Tigers have won four straight in the matchup after
sweeping the season series in each of the last two years.
Twenty-Twenty Vision: Senior
Jessica Lewis led the Tigers with 25 kills in Monday's win over Elon. The 25 kills tied Lewis' season-high and are tied for the most kills by a CAA player this season. Lewis now has five matches with 20 or more kills this season. She has the most matches 20 or more kill by a CAA player this season. She is the first Tiger since
Val Chromy in 2007 to record five matches with 20 or more kills in the same season.
Seeing Double: Senior
Jessica Lewis and freshman
Marrisa Wonders continued to double up their competition in Monday's win over Elon. Lewis finished with 25 kills and 11 digs for her fifth straight double-double and 10th of the year. Freshman
Marrisa Wonders recorded 41 assists and 11 digs for her fifth straight double-double and team leading 11th of the season. Wonders leads the CAA in double-double performances entering Thursday's action. Lewis and Wonders are the first Tigers to record five straight double-doubles since
Aimee Schubert had six straight between Sept. 18 and Oct. 4 of last year.
Welcome to the Block Party: Seniors
Lindsay Flaherty continues to provide the Tigers with a serious blocking threat at the net. Last year Flaherty recorded the 300th block of her career, becoming the 10th player in program history to reach that mark. Flaherty has 67 blocks in 68 sets played this season, raising her career total to 390 blocks. Flaherty enters play this weekend needing just 10 more blocks to move into the top five for career blocks at Towson. She would also become the sixth player in program history to record over 400 blocks in her career.
Aces Away: Towson recorded nine service aces in the win over Elon on Monday night. Six Tigers recorded at least one service ace in that contest and that group was led by sophomore
Jocelyn Kuilan, who had three. It was the 10th time in 18 matches that the Tigers have recorded five or more servic aces in a match. Towson, which leads the CAA in service aces, now has 113 service aces and is averaging 1.6 per set. Nine Tigers have recorded at least one service ace this season and six of those nine have 10 or more service aces. Freshman
Annie Ertz has a team-best 21 service aces while Kuilan has added 20 service aces.
Up Next: The Tigers return home following this weekend's action for three straight home matches. The action kicks off on Tuesday, Oct. 11 when the Tigers host Delaware State at 6 p.m. Towson then hosts James Madison (Oct. 14) and William & Mary (Oct. 16).
