Against Our Opponent: Towson will face Hofstra in Friday's quarterfinals. It will be the third meeting of the season between the two squads. Each team claimed a victory on their home court in the regular season. Hofstra holds a 43-14 lead in the all-time series as the two teams have split each of their last four meetings.
It will be the third meeting all-time between the Tigers and Pride in the CAA Tournament. The two squads met in 2003 and 2012 CAA Tournaments. The Pride took both of the previous matches as both times it went to five-sets.
In the CAA Tournament: Towson is making its 11th appearance overall in the CAA Tournament. The Tigers are making their third straight appearance under head coach
Don Metil. The Tigers will be looking for their first CAA Tournament win since 2005. Towson is 2-4 in the CAA Tournament against teams in this year's field.
A Kill Machine: Senior
Jessica Lewis had 11 kills against James Madison, raising her season total to 434 kills. She currently ranks seventh in single season history at Towson for total kills. Lewis became the 11th player in program history with at least 400 kills in a single-season. It's the third straight season a Tiger has recorded at least 400 kills (
Saitaua Iosia-2014,
Jocelyn Kuilan-2015, Lewis-2016).
Iron Tigers: A pair of Tiger seniors have proven to be the work horses of the lineup.
Lindsay Flaherty and
Candace Steadman have appeared in 115 of a possible 116 sets this season. Flaherty enters the CAA Tournament needing four more sets to tie the school record for career sets played. That mark of 479 career sets was set by Heidi Schaefer from 1991-94.
Steadman has appeared in 443 sets over the last four years. She ranks 10th in career history at Towson in that category.
Seeing Double: Towson enters the CAA Tournament leading the CAA in double-double performances with 48. Six Tigers have accounted for those 48 double-doubles. That group is led by freshman
Marrisa Wonders, who has a CAA leading 19 while senior
Jessica Lewis has added 16. Wonders had a double-double in the regular season finale against James Madison. Lewis enters the tournament with a double-double in her final three matches of the regular season.
All about the Defense: One of the keys to success for the Tigers this season was their defense. When the Tigers held William & Mary to a .152 hitting percentage last Friday, it marked the 23rd time the Tigers had held an opponent to a hitting percentage under .200. Ten times this season, the Tigers held an opponent to a hitting percentage under .100. Towson has been ranked among the Top 10 in the nation all season long for opponents hitting percentage.
Can You Dig It? Redshirt sophomore
Anna Holehouse reached a career milestone in the win over Northeastern in the home finale. Holehouse had 21 digs in the match, which raised her career total to 1,008 digs. She became the 15th player in program history with 1,000 career digs and the first since
Paige Sekerak in 2013. Holehouse is just the second player in program history to reach the mark as a sophomore (
Alison Essink).
In the final weekend of the regular season, Holehouse had 42 digs which raised her season total to 454 digs. She joins Sekerak and Essink as the only players in program history to record 450 or more digs in two seasons in program history.
Up Next: The winner of Friday's match advances to face No. 1 James Madison in the semifinals on Saturday, Nov. 19 at 2 p.m.
