CONWAY, S.C. – Daria Edwards' scalding bat sliced through Cleveland State like a hot knife through butter during Towson University's 5-3 victory Friday morning at the Kickin' Chicken Classic hosted by Coastal Carolina.
 
How It Happened

• The affable Edwards blasted a pair of home runs to help Towson (4-1 overall) start fast and hold off the Vikings (3-2).
• Edwards was a one-woman wrecking crew as she hit a two-out two-run homer in the bottom of the second inning that gave Towson a quick 2-0 lead.
• Reigning CAA Rookie of the Week Nicole Stockinger had three hits.
• Stockinger added to the Tigers advantage in the third inning with a two-out, two-run single down the leftfield line that gave Towson a 4-0 lead.
• Erin Drennan had Towson's other hit, a single leading off the fourth inning
• The Vikings, who had nine hits, chipped away at their deficit with single runs in the fifth and sixth innings.
• Edwards struck again by belting a solo shot leading off the bottom of the sixth inning that expanded Towson's lead to 5-3.
• Megan Dejter went the distance to pick up the victory.
• Dejter finished with five strikeouts.

 
Inside the Numbers

• This was Edwards' third multi-hit game of the season and eighth of her career.
• For Edwards, this was her first multi home run game of her career.
• She upped her career homer total to six.
• Towson scored four of its five runs with two outs.
• Stockinger has had three hits in two of Towson's last three games.
• Kendyl Scott stole a base for the fourth consecutive contest.
• Shelby Stracher threw out her second runner of the season when Phillips tried to steal in the seventh inning.
