NEW YORK – The most prestigious award in college lacrosse, the Tewaaraton Trophy presented by Under Armour, announced its 50-man Watch List late Tuesday evening. The list includes the top players across all three division of NCAA lacrosse.
"It's a great honor for me to be considered in the same category with some of the top players in the country," said White upon learning his selection to the Watch List. "I have grown immensely throughout my career here at Towson. I certainly could not have done it without the help of so many teammates and coaches."
White was one of two Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) student-athletes named to the Tewaaraton Trophy, Presented by Under Armour, Watch List. He was joined by Hofstra's Sam Llinares. The pair was named the CAA's 2015 Defensive and Offensive Players of the Year, respectively.
"It's great to see
Tyler White be recognized on the Tewaaraton Watch List. Tyler is a terrific young man that has worked hard and earned all the success and recognition he is receiving," said Towson head coach
Shawn Nadelen, who saw a player (
Andrew Hodgson) named to the Watch List for a second-straight season. "He has battled through a lot of adversity, in his personal life and athletic career, from high school through his years at Towson. Every step of the way, Tyler has grown in maturity, talent and as a leader. I am honored to have the opportunity to coach Tyler and have him represent everything that Towson Lacrosse is about."
The Tewaaraton Award, presented by Under Armour, annually honors the top male and female college lacrosse player in the United States. The selection committees are made up of premier collegiate coaches and are appointed annually by The Tewaaraton Foundation.
"The national reach of quality players is evident in this list, with players from all regions of the country, along with a strong group of six former winners and finalists," said Jeff Harvey, chairman of The Tewaaraton Foundation. "As the season unfolds, we are excited for another deserving group of Tewaaraton Award candidates to emerge and we look forward to welcoming them to Washington, D.C. in early June."
White is off to another strong start in 2016, carrying a 3.04 goals against average through the first two Tigers games of the season.
