Gymnastics Hosts Pink Meet, Heads To George Washington

TOWSON, Md. – The Towson women's gymnastics team prepares for a busy weekend that features two meets in three days. The Tigers welcome No. 20 George Washington, North Carolina State and William & Mary to SECU Arena for its annual Pink Meet on Friday, Feb. 26 at 7 p.m.
 
Towson will then head to George Washington for a quad meet with Maryland and Rutgers on Sunday, Feb. 28 at 1 p.m. at the Charles E. Smith Center.
 
Fans will have two chances to receive a discounted ticket for the Tigers' home meet. Fans who wear pink to help support breast cancer research or bring a canned food item for the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Food Drive will receive a $5 ticket.
 
All Towson home meets will feature poster giveaways, T-shirt tosses and a post-meet autograph session with Towson gymnasts. Fans will have a chance to enjoy the Family Fun Zone which includes poster-making, Dress Like a Towson Gymnast, face painter, balloon artist and gymnast cutouts.
 
Towson returns home after falling at the University of Iowa 194.150 to 191.800 last weekend. The Tigers earned seven top-five finishes against the Hawkeyes, including a second-place finish by Tyra McKellar in the all-around.
 
McKellar is having a successful sophomore campaign for the Tigers. She currently ranks sixth among EAGL gymnasts in the all-around and is tied for ninth on floor. Along with McKellar, freshman Mary Elle Arduino is ranked among the EAGL elite with the seventh-best average (9.792) on beam.
 
George Washington currently holds the top spot among EAGL teams, averaging 195.629 points per meet. The Colonials improved to 13-2 and extended their home unbeaten streak to 17 consecutive wins with a first-place finish in its annual Pink Meet last weekend. Sophomore Jillian Winstanley leads the Colonials. She won the all-around and vault titles last time out.
 
North Carolina State is coming off an impressive first-place finish last weekend, defeating No. 14 Nebraska along with University of Wisconsin-La Crosse and host Iowa State in a quad meet. Freshman Alexa Phillips earned EAGL Rookie of the Week honors after earning two top 10 finishes for the Wolfpack.
 
After the quad meet at George Washington on Sunday, Feb. 28, the Tigers will wrap up its regular season road schedule with a trip to Rutgers on Sunday, March 6. Towson will face off with the host Scarlet Knights, West Chester and Southern Connecticut at 1 p.m.
