Towson hangs on to beat Canisius

ROCK HILL, S.C. – The Towson University softball team used a five-run second-inning as a springboard to claim a 6-5 victory over Canisius in the Winthrop/Adidas Invitational Saturday afternoon at Terry Field.
 
How It Happened
  • Daria Edwards, Shelby Stracher and Kendyl Scott all had two hits to lead Towson's 11-hit attack.
  • Edwards slammed a one-out home run in the top of the first inning to give Towson a quick 1-0 lead.
  • Canisius answered quickly when Silfer delivered a two-run single to put the Griffins ahead, 2-1.
  • RBI hits in the top of the second inning from Scott, Stracher and Courtney Johnson helped Towson take a lead it wouldn't relinquish.
  • Scott's single scored Nicole Stockinger with the tying run.
  • Stracher had the big hit in the inning, a two-run single that plated Olivia Yarbrough and Scott. That gave Towson a 4-2 lead.
  • Johnson delivered a bases loaded single that scored Stracher and Holiday Cahill.
  • Canisius scored two in the sixth and one in the seventh.
