ROCK HILL, S.C. – The Towson University softball team concluded the Winthrop/Adidas Invitational by defeating Appalachian State, 12-9, Sunday afternoon at Terry Field. In continuing its best beginning to a season since 2010, the Tigers blasted three home runs and tied a season-high with 17 hits.
How It Happened- It took some time for Towson's offense to get going as it scored nine runs over the final three innings.
- Shelby Stracher had four hits to lead the Tigers offense.
- Holiday Cahill and Brook Miko collected three hits each for Towson.
- Courtney Johnson and Daria Edwards joined the multi-hit parade for the Tigers with a pair each.
- Towson raced to a quick 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning on Stracher's two-run homer.
- The Mountaineers immediately responded by scoring three runs in the bottom of the first and then adding another in the second to lead, 4-2 after two innings.
- Trailing 4-3 entering the fifth inning, Towson scored four runs to take the lead for good.
- Cahill's RBI single that scored Stacher tied the game at 4-4.
- A two-out error helped Towson's rally in the fourth inning.
- With the bases loaded, Nicole Stockinger reached on a fielding error, which allowed Cahill to score the go-ahead run.
- Kendyl Scott made the error hurt when she delivered a two-run single expanding Towson's lead to 7-4.
- Johnson's three-run homer and Edwards' two-run blast highlighted Towson's five-run seventh inning.
- Pitcher Ambar Hickman raised her record to 4-0 overall by tossing 5.1 solid innings of relief.
- Towson survived Appalachian State's five-run seventh inning.
