TOWSON, Md. – Hofstra University used a huge third quarter to break open a close game and claimed a 74-56 win over the Towson University women's basketball team on Sunday afternoon in Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) action. Senior guard

HOW IT HAPPENED- Neither team was able to find an edge through most of the first quarter.
- Bankston's three-pointer with 1:36 to go in the first tied the game at 16-16. That was the sixth tie of the stanza.
- Sandra Dongmo hit one-of-two from the foul line with 1:17 and Hofstra (17-5, 8-3 CAA) took a 17-16 lead after one quarter.
- The Pride opened the second quarter on an 8-4 run and held a 25-20 advantage with 3:37 to play in the stanza.
- Towson scored the final seven points of the quarter and took a 27-25 lead at the half. Johnson connected on a three-pointer with eight seconds left to give the Tigers the edge.
- Hofstra used runs of 6-0 and 9-0 to take control of the game in the third quarter. The Pride outscored the Tigers 25-8 in the stanza and took a 50-35 lead after three quarters of play. Anjie White led the Pride with six points and seven rebounds in the quarter.
- The Pride maintained their lead throughout the fourth quarter. The visitors' lead fluctuated between 12 and 22 points over the final 10 minutes of action. Darius Falk and Asia Jackson each had seven points in the frame. All of Jackson's points in the fourth quarter came from the foul line. Freshman guard Sianni Martin led Towson with seven points in that frame.
QUOTABLE- "I thought we were doing a good job the last couple of games of taking steps forward as a team with this young group," said Towson Head Coach Niki Reid Geckeler. Today when you look at the performance, on the defensive and offensive end when we didn't execute as we should have. Now we have to go back to the drawing board and get better."
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE- Hofstra went 19-for-27 (70.4%) from the foul line, including 18-for-21 in the second half. Towson was just 5-for-9 in the game from the charity stripe.
- The Pride took advantage of second chance points as well, leading that category 12-5.
- Johnson led the Tigers with 15 points and four rebounds. She also dished out seven assists, the most by a Tiger this season.
- Bankston also had 15 points while adding five rebounds and three steals.
- Freshman forward Brittany Tarr had five points and a career-high nine rebounds for Towson.
- Jackson led Hofstra with 15 points and four rebounds while White had 14 points and a game-high 20 rebounds. Â
The Tigers are back in action on Friday, Feb. 12 when they travel to Elon for a 7 p.m. game.
