Towson Triples Pleasure In 10-4 Victory Over Mount St. Mary's

TOWSON, Md. – Towson's terrific top of the lineup triumvirate of Olivia Yarbrough, Daria Edwards and Shelby Stracher combined for six hits and three walks to lead the Tigers to a 10-4 victory over Mount St. Mary's in the second game of the Tiger Classic at the Tiger Softball Complex Friday afternoon.

Historical Significance
Towson raised its overall record to 18-5, matching the best start in program history with the 1994 and 1987 teams. The best start in school history according to athletic records was 21-5 in 1994.

How It Happened
  • Bailey Boyd started Towson's scoring barrage by smashing a two-run double in the first inning to give the Tigers a 2-0 lead. It was her fourth double of the season.
  • Stracher paced Towson's offense with three hits, including a solo homer in the third inning that expanded the Tigers' lead to 3-0.
  • Stracher's blast was her team and CAA-leading eighth of the season, matching her entire total from 2014.
  • Towson had three triples. Two of the three triples produced runs.
  • Yarbrough enjoyed an active afternoon. The centerpiece of her day was hitting two-run triple in the fourth inning that gave Towson a 5-2 lead.
  • Yarbrough also stole two bases and scored three runs.
  • Holiday Cahill contributed a RBI single during the Tigers' four-run fourth inning.
  • Boyd added her career-best third RBI on a groundout that gave Towson a 7-2 advantage.
  • Edwards had a two-run triple in the fifth inning to help Towson take a 9-4 lead.
  • Stracher finished Towson's scoring and three-run fifth inning with a RBI single.
  • Towson pitcher Megan Dejter picked her seventh win by tossing her 10th complete game.
  • Dejter didn't allow a hit until there was one out in the fourth inning.
  • The only blemishes on Dejter's six strikeout performance were a pair of two-run homers hit by the Mount's Rachel Heinze (in the fourth inning) and Holly Buckel (in the fifth).
  • Dejter also started a great double play to escape minor trouble in the second inning.
