TOWSON, Md. – Senior
Austin Clark tossed six shutout innings, but it did not hold as Rhode Island touched up the Towson bullpen in a 7-2 victory Saturday afternoon.
How it Happened- The Tigers (3-14) got on the board in the first inning as Richie Palacios singled off the glove of the second baseman and stole second. After moving to third on a wild pitch, Chris Henze delivered a sacrifice fly to right field.
- Towson added a run in the fifth inning on a Palacios solo home run to right center. It was the first career home run for the freshman.
- URI (5-8) got on the board in the seventh inning after a leadoff hit batter came around to score on a dropped fly ball in the outfield.
- The Rams took their first lead of the game in the eighth as two Tiger errors led to five runs in the frame.
- URI added a run in the ninth after Chase Livingston started the inning with a double down the third-base line and came around to score on a Jordan Powell infield single.
- Right hander Austin Clark was very effective in his fifth start of the season. The senior allowed just four hits and struck out four over six shutout innings.
- Clark has allowed just one earned run over his last three starts, a span of 16.0 innings.
- Palacios led the offense by going 2-for-4 with his first career home run and two runs scored.
- Paul Beers (0-1) was saddled with the loss after giving up six runs, two earned over 1.2 innings.
- Tyler Wilson (3-1) gave up two earned runs on four hits over seven innings to pick up the victory.
On DeckThe two teams will play the middle game of the three-game series Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. The game was originally scheduled as part of a doubleheader Saturday, but was postponed due to rain.
