Stracher Ties HR Mark As Towson Sweeps Drexel

PHILADELPHIA – Shelby Stracher is closing in on becoming Towson University's new Sultan of Swat.
 
During a Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) doubleheader sweep at Drexel Sunday afternoon, the sophomore from Dudley (Mass.) homered in each game to raise her total to 13 and tie the Towson single-season record. In addition to Stracher, Brook Miko also went deep in each game as the Tigers won the opener, 8-2, and used a rally to remember to capture the nightcap, 14-4.
 
Records
In stretching its winning streak to four games, Towson raised its overall mark to 26-10, but more importantly evened its conference mark at 4-4. Drexel dropped to 16-21 and 0-8.
 
How It Happened Game One
  • Towson slugged four home runs.
  • The Tigers sprinted to a four-run lead after a half inning
  • Towson scored seven runs in its first two at-bats.
  • Holiday Cahill's two-run homer was the centerpiece of Towson's four–run first inning.
  • Towson continued its long ball show in the second inning as Stracher clubbed a two-run homer to extend the Tigers lead to 6-1.
  • One batter later, Brook Miko added a two-out solo homer to give Towson a 7-1 bulge.
  • Nicole Stockinger joined the long ball fun when she slammed a two-out solo shot in the fifth inning to give Towson an 8-2 advantage.
  • Olivia Yarbrough was active as she reached base three times (two singles and a walk) and scored a pair of runs.
  • Megan Dejter won her 10th game as she tossed a complete game gem.
  • Dejter finished with three strikeouts.

How It Happened Game Two
  • After falling behind 4-0, Towson scored 14 unanswered runs, highlighted by 11 over the final two innings.
  • Towson enjoyed an explosive seven-run sixth inning that turned the game in its favor.
  • While Stracher and Miko provided the thunder, the rally started with one-out singles from Courtney Johnson and Caroline Reid.
  • Daria Edwards walked to load the bases.
  • Trailing 4-3 with two outs, Yarbrough tied the game with a clutch single.
  • Stracher followed with a ringing two-run double that gave Towson its first lead of the contest, 6-4.

On Deck
Towson returns to action when it visits Georgetown in a non-conference contest beginning at 4 p.m. The Tigers defeated Georgetown twice this season in the Charleston Southern Tournament in February.
