TOWSON, Md. – The Towson women's tennis team welcomes Bucknell to the Towson Center Courts on Sunday, April 17 at 9 a.m. to wrap up the regular season portion of its 2015-16 campaign.
Towson won four matches last week to improve to 12-8 on the season. The Tigers wrapped up Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) play by defeating Drexel and Delaware by 4-3 scores. Towson then swept UMES and Coppin State by 7-0 scores.
Sophomore
Lucy Williams was named CAA Women's Singles Player of the Week after recording a 3-0 mark at No. 2 singles. She is the second Tiger this season to earn that weekly award (
Barbora Vasilkova, Feb. 17).
Williams won all three of her singles matchups in straight sets to improve her season record to 16-13. Towson has five players with 15 or more singles victories this season, led by sophomore
Barbora Vasilkova who has tallied a team-best 18 singles wins. That list also includes freshman
Lucy Gloninger with 16 wins, and sophomores
Nicole Shakhnazarova and
Renate van Oorschodt who both have 15 singles victories.
Shakhnazarova and Vasilkova have combined for a team-best 13 doubles victories this season. Sophomore
A.J. Gomer and van Oorschodt are 10-7 on the season and are the only other Tiger duo to reach double-digit doubles wins.
Bucknell enters the weekend 12-6 on the season and will travel to Patriot League rival Navy on Saturday before facing the Tigers Sunday.
The Tigers will compete at the 2016 CAA Women's Tennis Championship from April 21-24 at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center on Elon's campus.
