TOWSON, MD. – The Towson women's tennis team earned a thrilling 5-2 win over Bucknell on Sunday morning to close out the regular portion of the 2015-16 season. The Tigers swept the opening doubles point before winning four of the six singles matchups.

HOW IT HAPPENED (DOUBLES PLAY)

• Towson took an early 1-0 lead over the Bison by sweeping all three doubles matchups.
• At No. 1 doubles, Nicole Shakhnazarova and Barbora Vasilkova combined for a 6-3 win.
• The Tiger duo of Yevgeniya Shusterman and Lucy Williams posted a 6-1 victory at the No. 2 spot.
• In the final doubles matchup, Renate van Oorschodt and Lucy Gloninger earned a 6-3 win.

 
HOW IT HAPPENED (SINGLES PLAY)

• At the No. 1 spot, Shakhnazarova earned a thrilling third set comeback win. She dropped the first set 6-2 to Bucknell's Maria Cioffi. Shakhnazarova posted a 6-4 win the in second set to force the tiebreaker. She won that by a close 7-6(2) decision.
• Vasilkova won in straight sets at No. 3 singles over Michele Urbinati, 6-4, 6-0.
• A.J. Gomer earned a 6-1, 6-2 victory at the No. 4 spot against Bucknell's Madeline Melch.
• Sophie Lesage posted a third set win at No. 5 singles. She won the first set 6-1 against Mishi Papich before dropping the second set 6-1. She earned a 6-2 win in the third set to secure the win.
• At No. 6 singles, van Oorschodt fell in a third-set tiebreaker to Bucknell's Stephanie Pino. She won the first set 6-4 before dropping the second set 6-4. In the final set, she fell 6-0.

The Tigers will compete at the 2016 CAA Women's Tennis Championship from April 21-24 at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center on Elon's campus.
