TOWSON, Md. –
Caroline Reid had a game-winning single in the opener and a game-tying homer in the nightcap as the Towson University softball team split a Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) doubleheader against the University of Delaware Saturday afternoon at the Towson Softball Stadium.
Each game went nine innings with Towson winning the opener, 2-1, and dropping the second game, 4-3.
How It Happened Game One- Reid hit a two-strike pitch down the leftfield line that scored Bailey Boyd from second base with the decisive run.
- Boyd pinch-ran for Shelby Stracher, who led off the ninth inning with a walk.
- Kendyl Scott hit the fourth pitch she saw over the leftfield fence for her fifth homer of the season.
- The Blue Hens tied the game, 1-1, on a RBI groundout bv Mariah Kondravy.
- Pitcher Ambar Hickman earned the complete-game victory to raise her season record to 12-5 overall.
- In addition to Scott, Stracher and Reid, Brook Miko and Daria Edwards had hits for the Tigers.
- Stracher and Miko had doubles.
How It Happened Game Two- All seven combined runs were scored on home runs.
- Delaware's Alyshia Dellatore hit what proved to be the game-winning homer leading off the top of the ninth inning.
- Towson showed tremendous heart and character in rallying from a 3-0 deficit entering the bottom of the seventh inning.
- Edwards led off the seventh inning with her ninth home run of the season.
- Cahill followed with a single and advanced to second on an error.
- Reid delivered again in the clutch by smacking a two-out, two-run homer to the tie game, 3-3.
- Olivia Yarbrough and Miko singled in the eighth inning.
- Courtney Johnson singled and walked.
- Delaware hit three consecutive two-out solo homers on seven pitches off of two different Towson hurlers in the third inning to grab a 3-0 advantage.
