TOWSON, Md. – The Towson women's tennis team earned a close 4-3 victory over Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) rival Delaware on Friday afternoon. The match came down to the very last singles matchup as sophomore Lucy Williams was the deciding factor, winning in straight sets at No. 2 singles.

HOW IT HAPPENED (DOUBLES PLAY)

• The Blue Hens won two of the three doubles matches to take the opening doubles point.
• At No. 1 doubles, sophomores Nicole Shakhnazarova and Barbora Vasilkova combined for a 7-5 victory over Delaware's Amanda Studnicki and Denny LaMachia. 

HOW IT HAPPENED (SINGLES PLAY)

• The Tigers opened singles play with three-straight victories. Shakhnazarova won at the No. 1 spot 6-4, 6-2. Junior Sophie Lesage posted a 6-0, 6-2 decision at No. 5 singles while sophomore Renate van Oorschodt won 6-2, 6-4 at No. 6 singles.
• Delaware responded with two singles wins to tie up the match. Sophomore A.J. Gomer fell in a third set tiebreaker to Delaware's Sara Komer at No. 4 singles while Vasilkova fell in straight sets at No. 3 singles.
• Towson and Delaware entered the final singles match tied at 3-3. At No. 2 singles, Lucy Williams defeated LaMachia in straight sets for the deciding match point. Williams won the first set 6-3 before edging LaMachia after a close battle 7-6(4) in the second set. 

UP NEXT
Towson continues its home stand with two matches on Sunday, April 10. The Tigers will face UMES at 11:30 a.m. and Coppin State at 2 p.m. on the Towson Center Courts.
