I'm Honored: Senior
Jessica Lewis made the most of her opening weekend of the season. Lewis posted a team-high 51 kills and a .541 hitting percentage. Those numbers combined with 25 digs, six service aces, five assists and four blocks earned Lewis Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Offensive Player of the Week honors on Monday. The Huntsville, Alabama native earned weekly honors for the second time in her career. Lewis was particularly impressive in the final match against Alabama A&M where she recorded 16 kills with an .889 hitting percentage. Lewis also added seven digs and five service aces in that contest.
Milestones approaching: Towson head coach
Don Metil enters the season's second weekend with a coaching milestone within reach. Metil needs just three more wins to reach 300 career victories in 15 seasons on the collegiate bench. The Tiger leader also needs just eight victories to record his 75th win in four seasons on the Towson sidelines.
Acing Our Way to the Top: One of the keys to success for the Tigers during the season's opening weekend was the ability to come up with a service aces. Towson recorded 41 service aces in the four matches combined while limiting their opponents to just 15 service aces. Freshman
Annie Ertz had a strong showing from the service line as she knocked down a team-high 13 service aces. Ertz was one of seven Tigers to record a service ace during the season opening weekend. Redshirt sophomore
Anna Holehouse was second on the team with seven service aces after the opening weekend.
Up Next: The Tigers continue their 13 match road trip to start the season next weekend in Washington, D.C. Towson will take part in the Georgetown Tournament on Sept. 9-10. The Tigers will face Georgetown, Maryland and Princeton as part of the weekend's action. Towson will finally play its home opener on Sept. 20 when it hosts VCU at 6 p.m.
