RICHMOND, Va. – After recording the fifth-best single-game receiving performance in school history, Towson University senior wide receiver
Christian Summers was named the CAA Offensive Player of the Week, the league announced Monday.
On Sunday, Summers was selected as the College Sports Madness FCS National Offensive Player of the Week.
Summers finished his career day with six catches for 232 yards and two touchdowns. The two touchdowns matched his season total from last season. After not catching a pass in the first quarter, Summers caught four passes for 95 yards in the second quarter. No catch was bigger than the 54 yard reception that set up a field goal as the first half expired.
He tied the game in the third quarter when he caught a pass in the flat, broke a tackle, and outran the defense to the endzone for a 94-yard touchdown. The play was the second-longest pass play in school history, missing the school record by just one yard.
Summers was still not done as he added the game-winning touchdown by laying out for a 43-yard touchdown to complete the 18-point comeback.
The 232 receiving yards marked the first time a Tiger receiver went over 200 yards since Andrae Brown had 222 yards against Northeastern in 2005.
The Tigers return to action Saturday afternoon as they open CAA play at Villanova. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. and can be seen live on Comcast SportsNet.
