HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – Towson University scored 54 points in the second half to erase an eight-point halftime deficit in an 86-80 road victory over Hofstra Thursday night at the Mack Sports Complex.
The victory is the third-straight CAA win for the Tigers, improving their record to 11-9 overall and 3-4 in conference play.
How it Happened
- The Pride got off to a quick start and opened a 32-16 with 6:46 left in the first half.
- The Philadelphia connection of John Davis and Zane Martin would score 11 points in the Tigers 13-0 run to pull the Tigers within 32-29.
- Martin would knock down another three pointer late in the half to get the Tigers within 40-32 at the half.
- Martin would continue his strong play early in the second half as he sparked a run that saw the Tigers go from 10 points down to up 11 points.
- Jordan McNeil finally pulled the Tigers even with an old-fashioned three-point play in transition.
- McNeil would knock down two more three pointers during the run to give the Tigers their largest lead, 66-55, with 8:37 to play.
- The next six minutes belonged to the Pride as they erased the 11-point deficit to take a one-point lead with 2:59 to play.
- The remainder of the game saw the Tigers lock down on defense, and go a perfect 12-for-12 at the free throw line to secure the victory.
- Deshaun Morman closed out the game by make all six free throw attempts in the final minute.
Inside the Numbers
- The 54 points scored in the second half are the second most points scored in a half this season. The Tigers scored 57 points in the second half in a win against Fairleigh Dickinson.
- The 86 points scored marked the fourth-straight game at Hofstra the Tigers have scored more than 80 points. It is the longest streak against any CAA opponent.
- Freshman Zane Martin scored a career-high 23 points off the bench. He became the first freshman to score over 20 points in the Pat Skerry era.
- Jordan McNeil was also in double figures for the first time this season, scoring 11 of his 13 points in the second half.
- John Davis added 14 points to move into 24th place on the Tigers all-time scoring list.
- The Tigers got 50 of their 86 points from the bench. They outscored the Pride 50-4 off the bench.
- Towson also scored 48 points in the paint.
- The Tigers had their best free throw shooting game of the season as they went 21-of-22 for the game, including 13-of-13 in the second half.
- The Tigers put five players in double figures for the third time this season. Towson also had five players in double figures against Stony Brook and Fairleigh Dickinson.
- Deshaun Morman, Arnaud William Adala Moto and John Davis each finished with 14 points.
- Brian Starr finished with four points and five assists.
