TOWSON, Md. - Towson University women's gymnastics head coach
Vicki Chliszczyk May announced the Tigers' 2018 schedule on Friday which is highlighted by six home meets, including the East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) Championships.
In addition, this season with mark the 50th anniversary of the women's gymnastics program at Towson.
"We are very excited about the 50th anniversary season and hosting the EAGL Championships," said Chliszczyk May. "We will see every conference team at least once as well as teams from B1G, Big 12 and ECAC. We will be looking to qualify as a team for the regional championships."
The Tigers open the season at the Little Boston Invitational against B1G foe Maryland and Temple on January 6 before making their home debut on Sunday, January 14 in SECU Arena against Temple and William & Mary.
The team will head to Morgantown, West Virginia on Sunday, January 21 for a meet with the Mountaineers of the Big 12 and EAGL rival George Washington.
The Tigers return home on Friday, January 26 against North Carolina, Yale and Ursinus before hitting the road for two meets at the University of Pittsburgh with N.C. State and Temple on Saturday, February 3. Towson then heads to Durham, New Hampshire for a dual against UNH on Saturday, February 10.
On Sunday, February 18, the Tigers will hold their alumni night and 50th anniversary celebration when the host Gustavus Adolphus and Southern Connecticut.
Towson travels to B1G foe Rutgers on Saturday, February 24 where it will face the Scarlet Knights, Ursinus and Western Michigan before returning home to host George Washington and Rutgers in the team's annual Pink Meet.
The Tigers' final road trips of the regular season come back-to-back on Sunday, March 4 at George Washington with Rutgers and Maryland and then on Saturday, March 10 at William & Mary.
"The meet at William & Mary will be a new experience for us," said Chliszczyk May. "It will be a double dual which means it will be the men and women competing together. We will be competing against the William & Mary women while the William & Mary men will be hosting Army West Point simultaneously."
From there, Towson wraps up the regular season with back-to-back home meets beginning on Sunday, March 18 for Senior Day against William & Mary, Cornell, N.C. State and West Virginia. The following week, the team will host the EAGL Championships on Saturday, March 24.
A year ago, the Tigers had three individuals qualify for regional championships in
Gabriella Yarussi,
Tyra McKellar and
Mary Elle Arduino, had 14 student-athletes earn All-EAGL Academic Team honors, the most in program history, and boasted the highest GPA in the EAGL. They finished sixth at the EAGL Championships.
In addition, Chliszczyk May was named Southeast Regional Head Coach of the Year.
