Tigers Head South for a Pair of CAA Contests This Weekend

Time to be Road Warriors: Looking to shake off its first two losses of the season, the Towson University volleyball team heads out on a four-match road swing. The action kicks off this weekend with visits to the College of Charleston on Friday, October 6 and continues at UNCW on Sunday, October 8. Links to live stats and the video feed can be found on the schedule page of TowsonTigers.com. Fans can also follow the Tigers on Twitter (@Towson_VB) for updates.

Looking at the Tigers: The Tigers suffered their first two losses of the season last weekend. Senior Julymar Otero led the Tigers with 21 kills, 45 assists and 22 digs in the two matches combined. Junior Jocelyn Kuilan paces the Tigers on the season with 204 kills, 86 digs and a team-high 21 service aces. Fellow junior Carola Biver is contributing 185 kills and 147 digs while sophomore Marrisa Wonders has dished out a season-high 422 assists. Redshirt junior Anna Holehouse leads the defensive efforts with 323 digs as junior Olamide Sonuga has a team-high 66 blocks.

Scouting the Cougars: The College of Charleston enters Friday's match with a 14-4 overall record and a 3-1 mark in Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) action. The Cougars are coming off wins over UNCW and James Madison last weekend. Lauren Freed leads the squad with 183 kills and  167 digs while Krissy Mummey is contributing 180 kills and 48 blocks. Allison Beckman has handed out 695 assists.

Scouting the Seahawks: UNCW comes into the weekend with a 6-10 record and looking for its first CAA win of the year (0-4). The Seahawks will host Delaware on Friday night before welcoming the Tigers on Sunday. Maddy Kline enters the weekend with 149 kills and 147 kills while Brynn Montgomery has recorded 270 assists. Katie McCullough leads the defense with 237 digs.

Series History: Towson and the College of Charleston will meet for the tenth time overall on Friday night. The Cougars lead the series 7-2 after taking both matches between the two teams last year. Jocelyn Kuilan knocked down a team-best 39 kills in two matches against the Cougars last year.

Sunday's meeting between the Tigers and Seahawks will be the 31st all-time. The Tigers lead the matchup between the two squads, 22-8. The Tigers have won three straight against UNCW after sweeping the season series last fall. Marrisa Wonders had 45 assists, 29 digs and three service aces in the two contests combined.

Triple-Double: Towson senior Julymar Otero put together a strong showing against Northeastern as she recorded the first triple-double of her career. Otero finished with 13 kills, 24 assists and 11 digs against the Huskies. Otero is the Tiger to post a triple-double in a match since Kimberly Snider had one against Hofstra during the 2005 season.

Welcome to the Block Party: Despite falling to Northeastern on Sunday, the Tigers put up a strong showing at the net. Towson finished with 11 team blocks against the Huskies. Six of the eight Tigers who appeared in the match recorded at least one block. That group was led by junior Olamide Sonuga who finished with seven stops. Towson is now 3-1 this year when it posts double-digit team blocks in a match. The Tigers are 25-7 all-time under head coach Don Metil when they record 10 or more team blocks in a match.

1,000 kills and Counting: Junior Jocelyn Kuilan reached a career milestone in the Tigers' contest against Northeastern. Kuilan's 11th kill of the match, which came in the third set, gave her 202 for the season and 1,000 kills for her career. Kuilan, who is the 14th player in program history to reach the mark, became the first Tiger to reach the mark since Katy Buck (2010-12). She is believed to be the fastest player in program history to reach 1,000 career kills, needing just 83 matches to reach the mark.

Take Me to Your Leader: The Tigers continue to rank among the top 10 in the nation in several statistcal categories. In statistics released by the NCAA on Monday, the Tigers rank fourth in the nation in opponents'  hitting percentage (.125). The Tigers are also sixth in assists per set (13.80) and ninth in digs per set (18.08). Towson is 10th nationally in kills per set (14.59) and in team attacks per set (39.03).

Individually, junior Anna Holehouse ranks 25th for total digs (323). Senior Julymar Otero is one of just 22 players nationally to record a triple-double this season.

Can You Dig It? Redshirt junior Anna Holehouse continues to move her way up the career digs list at Towson. Holehouse's 29 digs last weekend gave her 1,401 career digs as a Tiger. She is just the fourth player in program history to record 1,400 or more digs in a career. Holehouse needs five more digs to move into the top three for career digs at Towson.

Having recorded 300 or more digs in each of her three seasons for the Tigers, Holehouse is averaging 4.72 digs per set for her career. That ranks 11th among active players nationally for career digs per set.

Up Next: The Tigers remain on the road following this weekend's action. Towson visits Delaware (Oct. 11) and James Madison (Oct. 15) before returning to SECU Arena on Oct. 20 to host Elon at 7 p.m.
