TOWSON, Md. – Towson University freshman forward Quincy Drayton will redshirt the 2017-18 season, men's basketball head coach
Pat Skerry announced. He will have four years of eligibility starting in 2018-19.
"Quinton and I have decided to use a redshirt year on him for this season," Skerry said. "We are very excited about his long term impact for us and with some upperclassmen at his position we want to make sure we maximize his career. We expect him to really improve this season and follow a similar suit like
Jordan McNeil and
Dennis Tunstall , two very valuable players for us who greatly benefited from their redshirt year."
A native of Bowie, Drayton played for head coach Cedric Holbrook at Bowie High School. He averaged 20 points per game and scored over 1,000 points in three years. Drayton played in the Capital All-Star Classic, the first Towson recruit to participate in the prestigious showcase.
In helping Bowie win 14 games as a junior, he averaged 15.1 points, 5.5 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 1.2 steals and one block per game. He was a first team All-Conference selection two consecutive years and a 2016 honorable mention All-Metro. Drayton played for DC Premier 17U team at the Under Armour Association. A great athlete and can sky above the rim for offensive put backs while grabbing boards high off the glass on defense.
