Gymnastics Set to Host Shelli Calloway Invite on Sunday

TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University gymnastics team hosts its annual Shelli Calloway Invitational on Sunday, Feb. 12 at 2 p.m. inside SECU Arena. The meet, which serves as Towson's alumnae day, will feature No. 24 West Virginia University, Temple University and East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) rival University of North Carolina. 
 
Meet Coverage
The quad meet will feature live stats and a live video stream that shows primarily Towson routines, courtesy of Towson Sports Network. Temple University's Kevin Copp and program alumna Tandy Knight '91 will have the call. Fans can also find the results of the meet on Road to Nationals.
 
Fans who wear their favorite Towson t-shirt Sunday's meet to help the Tigers welcome back alumnae can receive a special $5 ticket.
 
Setting Season Bests
Towson placed third at George Washington's quad meet on Sunday with a season-best team score of 194.950. It was the second-straight meet that the Tigers posted a season-best team score. The Tigers impressed on vault, having all six routines set season or career-bests for a season-best team score of 48.775 on the event.
 
Ranking among the Best
Towson's season average of 194.150 is the fourth-best among EAGL teams this season and sixth-best in the South East Region. Towson ranks third among EAGL teams and 28th nationally for balance beam with a season-average of 48.950.
 
Three Tigers are ranked in the top 10 among EAGL gymnasts this season. Tyra McKellar ranks eighth in EAGL and 14th in the South East Region for the all-around with a season-average of 38.825. She also is fourth among EAGL gymnasts and 17th in the South East Region for uneven bars (9.785).
 
Gabriella Yarussi ranks 41st nationally, ninth in the South East Region and second in EAGL for the all-around (39.125). Her season-average of 9.805 on balance beam is seventh-best among EAGL gymnasts and 15th in the South East Region. Yarussi is also tied for 10th-place (9.800) in EAGL for floor exercise.
 
Mary Elle Arduino ranks sixth among EAGL gymnasts and is tied for 12th in the South East Region on balance beam with a season-average of 9.815. Her floor exercise season-average of 9.806 is ninth-best in EAGL and 20th in the South East Region.
 
I'm Honored
Tyra McKellar picked up two weekly honors after winning the all-around title at George Washington. The junior was named EAGL Gymnast of the Week and earned NewDay USA Female Student-Athlete of the Week honors on TowsonTigers.com. McKellar posted a season-best team score of 39.250 for the all-around and set season-bests for floor exercise (9.875) and vault (9.750).
 
Gabriella Yarussi was named NewDay USA Female Student-Athlete of the Week on Jan. 10 for her performance in the Tigers' home opener. She matched her career-high with a 9.900 on balance beam to win the event title. Yarussi is one of 11 gymnasts in program history to score a 9.900 or higher on balance beam. She also competed on vault for the first time since returning from injury and finished seventh overall.
