Where Are They Now Wednesday? - Victoria Williams

In this blog series redshirt senior Candace Steadman will take fans on a journey to reconnect with Tiger Volleyball alumni. On "Where are they now Wednesdays" fans will hear from past Towson volleyball players on their experiences at Towson and how Towson prepared them for where they are today!
Hey Tiger Fans!

In this first edition of "Where Are they Now," we reconnect with former Tiger, Victoria Williams, otherwise known as "Tori". Tori graduated from Towson in 2014 and competed for two years as a Towson Tiger. She was one of two transfer players from University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) who came with Don Metil and Eric Hammond to the Towson volleyball program.  When speaking on her transition she said "the transition was definitely a positive one and it was easier because my teammate Saitaua Iosia was there and we were kind of partners in a new environment, new team. The girls were very welcoming and we had the same coaches."

As a Towson Tiger, Tori earned two first team All-Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) accolades and was CAA Offensive Player of the Week twice in one season. In 2014, she lead the CAA with a .346 hitting percentage and was second on the team with 355 kills.

Tori said the experience she enjoyed most during her time at Towson was the summer training program with the football team. During the summer the volleyball and football teams would go through conditioning with the strength and conditioning coach, Coach Pick.

"It was good to do it with the football players because they kind of motivated you, you didn't want to look bad in front of them" she said laughing.

In the classroom, Tori switched her major with the guidance of her professor from Computer Science to Information Systems with a minor in Business. She said her professor acted like her mentor, really guiding her to figure out what the best course path was for her future career. All of her time and effort definitely paid off in the classroom, as she is now working for an IT Consulting Firm in the DC area.

Tori said the biggest carryover from the volleyball court to the real world was learning how to work in teams. "I am on a team now with five or six people at work. Volleyball taught me to do my part and then group together with my team so we can complete the overall product."

Her one piece of advice to incoming freshman is to look at the big picture.

"Do not to take it for granted! Make sure you learn as much as you can volleyball and school wise. Volleyball and school are good things but just being able to look at the big picture."

Catch up with Victoria's co-transfer from UMES, Saitaua Iosia on next week's Where are They Now Wednesdays!
