TOWSON, Md. – Towson University junior first baseman
Logan Burke delivered a two-run single in the bottom of the eighth inning to complete the comeback and give the Tigers a 7-5 victory over Coppin State Wednesday afternoon at Schuerholz Park.
How It Happened
- The Tigers found themselves trailing 5-2 heading into the bottom of the seventh inning. Richie Palacios delivered a one-out single up the middle and Burke followed with a walk.
- With two outs, A.J. Gallo plated both runners with a single up the middle.
- David Marriggi took over on the mound in the eighth and struck out the side.
- With one out in the bottom of the eighth, Cuinn Mullins drew a walk. Colin Gimblet reached on catcher's interference and Mark Grunberg walked to load the bases.
- After a pop out, Burke fouled off a two-strike pitch before blooping a single into right field to score two runs. When the throw got away from the catcher, Grunberg hustled home and slid around the tag to give the Tigers the 7-5 advantage.
- Marriggi came out in the ninth and retired the first two hitters he faced before walking the bases loaded. He came back to get a strikeout to end the game.
- Marriggi (2-1) picked up the win after striking out four over his two innings of work.
- The Tigers got on the board in the first inning as Palacios singled through the right side and stole second. With two outs, Richard Miller drove in Palacios with a single to right field.
- The Eagles were able to take the lead with two runs in the third, but the Tigers tied the game in the fifth with the help of two throwing errors from CSU.
- CSU took the lead with a run in the sixth, then extended the lead in the seventh with a pair of unearned runs.
- Corey Treyes (0-2) took the loss for the Eagles, allowing two runs, one earned, on one hits over two-thirds of an inning.
- Palacios finished the day by going 2-for-4 and scoring three runs. Gallo added two hits and drove in two runs. Dyer also collected two hits.
