TOWSON, Md. – The long ball was the difference Saturday as Northeastern hit four home runs in sweeping Towson in a doubleheader at Schuerholz Park. The Huskies won the first game, 5-2, before taking the nightcap, 7-5.
Game 1
- The Huskies were able to jump out to the early lead in the third inning as a pair of walks and a single loaded the bases. Nick Fanneron made the Tigers pay with a grand slam just inside the foul pole in right field.
- NU added to its lead in the fifth as they loaded the bases with one out for Pat Madigan to deliver an RBI single through the left side.
- The Tigers went to the bullpen to bring in Alex Cuas who retired the next two hitters to limit the damage to just that one run.
- Cuas would retired the first seven hitters he faced before allowing a bloop single to center.
- The bloop single would be the only hit allowed by the right hander as he added a pair of strikeouts in his 4.2 innings of work.
- The Tigers finally got on the board in the seventh inning as Colin Gimblet hit a two-run opposite field home run to right field. It was the first home run in Gimblet's career.
- Dean Stramara (1-3) took the loss after surrendering five runs on seven hits over 4.1 innings.
- Mike Fitzgerald (3-1) earned the victory after allowing two runs on four hits and eight strikeouts over seven innings.
- Cuinn Mullins led the offense with a pair of hits.
Game 2
- Towson got on the board first as Colin Gimblet walked to lead off the second and came in to score on Colin Dyer's single up the middle.
- NU tied the game in the fourth on a solo home run in the fourth before Madigan followed a two-run home run from Max Bert with his second home run of the game in the fifth.
- The Tigers started to make a comeback in the sixth as singles by Logan Burke and Richard Miller, along with a walk to Gimblet loaded the bases.
- Mullins drove in all three runners with a double to straight-away center field.
- NU pushed across its seventh run in the seventh on a wild pitch with the bases loaded.
- Towson got the run back in the eighth after Miller drew a leadoff walk. After a sacrifice bunt from A.J. Gallo, a pair of wild pitches allowed Miller to score.
- Kevin Ross (0-3) took the loss after surrendering five runs on eight hits over five innings.
- David Stiehl (2-3) allowed four runs on six hits over six innings to pick up the victory.
