Early Strike Lifts Tigers Over Loyola in Battle of Baltimore

TOWSON, Md. – Another early goal for the Towson University women's soccer team proved to bethe difference as the Tigers edged out Charles Street rival Loyola University Maryland 1-0 on Sunday afternoon at the Tiger Soccer Complex.

How It Happened
  • After the Greyhounds took the game's first shot, which was saved by Tiger keeper Taylor Sebolao, Towson put the pressure back on Loyola. McCaull took the ball down the left side and sent in a cross to Neidert, who tipped it in just 1:18 into the match.
  • The Tigers (1-0-1) continued to pressure the Greyhounds as junior midfielder Sarah Quick put a shot on goal in the 13th minute, but was stymied by Sumer Rahe.
  • After the Greyhounds got a shot 55 seconds into the game, Loyola (0-2-0) did not get another shot for the balance of the first half.
  • Towson put the pressure on late in the first half as sophomore forward Elizabeth Coletti put a header on cage in the 38th minute, but Rahe made a save for a 1-0 score at halftime.
  • In the second half, it was the Greyhounds' turn to apply pressure. The Tigers were held without a shot for the entire second period.
  • Alice Regan put a shot goalward in the 49th minute, but Sebolao made one of her two second-half saves on the effort.
  • The Tiger defense weathered the storm as Loyola took seven corner kicks in the second half, including a set of four corners in a one-minute stretch.
