Kicking Off
The Tigers round out a three-game road swing on Thursday night with a trip to the Lehigh Valley for a midweek match at Lehigh followed by a return to the Tiger Soccer Complex on Sunday against Saint Joseph's. The Tigers are currently 1-1-0 on this road swing, picking up their first victory away from home last Thursday at Longwood thanks to a Sarah Quick marker.
Scouting the Tigers
Towson has gotten its three goals from three different sources in the early goings of 2017. McKenzie McCaull leads the Tigers with three points (1g, 1a) while Floridians Sarah Quick and Evelyn Neidert have potted one goal apiece. Senior captain Maddie Bové added an assist in the win at Longwood, feeding Quick. Towson's defense has been stingy, allowing just two goals in 380 minutes of soccer. Redshirt senior Taylor Sebolao has turned aside 17 opponent shots and carries a goals against average of 0.47. She is making saves at an 89.5 percent clip and has two clean sheets to her credit. That success is backed by her defense not allowing quality shots; opponents have taken 46 total attempts, with only 19 falling on goal (.413).
The Series: Lehigh (2-0-1, 0-0-0 Patriot League)
It's been awhile since Towson and Lehigh have met on the soccer pitch. Thursday's game will be the seventh all-time meeting between the programs and the first since the 2004 campaign. Towson leads the series 4-2-0, thanks to a four-game winning streak in the middle of the meetings. Lehigh defended home turf in the last match, a 3-2 double ovetime decision. Towson will be looking for its first win in the Lehigh Valley since a 1-0 victory on Sept. 23, 2002. The August 31 meeting will be the earliest in the calendar the two teams have ever met.
The Series: Saint Joseph's (2-0-1, 0-0-0 A10)
Sunday's contest will be the fifth meeting all-time between the Tigers and the Hawks. It marks the first time in series history the game will be played in Towson. The Tigers lead 3-1-0 all-time, with the lone blemish coming last season in a 3-1 decision in Philadelphia. The Tigers are 2-1-0 all-time in Philly against Saint Joseph's, while grabbing a 3-2 win over the Hawks at Loyola, a game originally scheduled to be played at Towson.
The Hawks will take on inter-city foe Villanova on Friday night on the road. That game is scheduled for a 4 p.m. start in Villanova, Pennsylvania.

Last Time Out vs. Lehigh
In the Tigers' final nonconference game of the 2004 season, Towson traveled north to the Lehigh Valley. The Tigers were edged by the Mountain Hawks 3-2 in double overtime. Jen Van Horn and Shannon Jackson logged the two goals for the Tigers. Brandi Daniels, then a freshman, made 13 saves in the double overtime game, a career-best game to date.
Last Time Out vs. Saint Joseph's
Towson jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the eighth minute, thanks to a top-shelf shot from the since-graduated Natalia Pinkney. The Hawks rallied back behind three-straight goals in the 34th, 60th and 75th minutes. Taylor Sebolao made eight stops in the game at Sweeney Field in Philadelphia.
With a Win Thursday
- Towson would improve to 3-1-1 on the season, including a 2-1-1 mark on the road.
- The Tigers would collect their fifth win all-time over Lehigh, improving to 5-2-0 against the Mountain Hawks.

- The Tigers would run their record at Lehigh to 3-1-0.
- Halt a one-game slide in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania after dropping a 2-0 decision at Penn last season.
With a Win Sunday…
- Towson would improve to 2-0-0 at the Tiger Soccer Complex this season, coupled with a 1-0 victory over Loyola (Aug. 20).
- The Tigers would impove to 4-1-0 all-time against Saint Joseph's.

- The Tigers would get their first victory in the State of Maryland over the Hawks since a 3-2 win at Loyola on Sept. 16, 2006.
One is All You Need
Coaches often joke that you only need to score one more than your opponent to win. That has proved to be true for the Tigers in 2017. Towson has a 2-1-1 overall record, despite only scoring one goal in three of the four games thus far. To boot, the Tigers have allowed just two goals this season in a span of 380 minutes. The Tigers have a 0.47 goals against average, which is tied for 44th among the 332 Division I programs and best in the CAA.
Towson is the only program in the CAA to hold opponents to one goal or fewer in every game in 2017.
Road Warriors
Two of the Tigers' three consecutive road games are in the books after spliting last weekend at Longwood (W, 1-0) but falling at East Carolina (L, 0-1). The Tigers round out the road trip on Thursday at Lehigh (6 p.m.) before returning home for the first time in two weeks with a Sunday tilt against Saint Joseph's (1 p.m.).
Long Way From Home
Last weekend, junior midfielder/forward Sarah Quick scored the first goal of her Tiger career, depositing what proved to be the game-winning goal in the 66th minute. Quick's hometown of Sarasota, Florida is 1,014 miles from campus, marking the second-longest distance a Tiger has travel from her hometown to score a goal. Gabby Scricia, who listed her hometown as Jupiter, Florida, scored twice in 2014. Jupiter is just 20 miles further away from Towson University's campus than Sarasota.
However, Quick now has the distinction of being the Tiger from farthest away to score a game-winning goal, edging out fellow Floridian Evelyn Neidert (Lake Mary), whose hometown is 893 miles from campus. The latter had her first career game-winner on Aug. 20 in the 1-0 home-opening win against Loyola.
Movin' On Up
Redshirt senior goalie Taylor Sebolao has turned aside 17 shots in the early goings of 2017. Throughout her career, Sebolao has made 235 saves, which currently ranks her sixth all-time in program history. She trails Michelle Robinson's 257 for fifth all-time. Last weekend, Sebolao made 11 saves to surpass Yasmin Alter's mark of 229.
Won If By Land...
Towson has faced four institutions with four different mascots this season: Retrievers (UMBC), Greyhounds (Loyola), Lancers (Longwood) and Pirates (East Carolina). So far, the Tigers are 2-0-1 against schools with a land-based mascot and 0-1-0 against sea-based mascots.
A Feather in Your Cap
This weekend, the Tigers will take on a pair of avian mascots in the Mountain Hawks (Lehigh) and Hawks (Saint Joseph's). The Tigers are on a four-game winning streak against their non-mythical feathered opponents, besting Temple (Owls, Sept. 4, 2016, 1-0), Bowling Green (Falcons, Sept. 9, 2016, 5-1), Delaware (Blue Hens, Sept. 30, 2016, 1-0) and UNCW (Seahawks, Oct. 14, 2016, 1-0).
After this weekend, the Tigers will have three more shots at non-mythical bird-based mascots: Temple Owls (Sept. 15),Delaware Blue Hens (Sept. 24) and the UNCW Seahawks (Oct. 15). All three of those tilts will be at the Tiger Soccer Complex. Elon's mascot is the mythical bird, the Phoenix.
Longest Nonconference Road Trip
Last weekend's trek down south took Towson on its longest nonconference road trip of the season. The Tigers traveled roughly 230 miles on Wednesday from the Towson Center to Longwood University. After Thursday's 1-0, the Tigers aimed for East Carolina, an additional 176 miles. On Sunday the Tigers returned to Towson after a 335 mile trip from Greenville, North Carolina. The Tigers drove roughly 750 miles last weekend.
We Have That in Common(wealth)
Thursday's game in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania marks the second game the Tigers will play in one of the country's four Commonwealths after playing in Farmville, Virginia last weekend at Longwood. The final Commonwealth will be an Oct. 19 game at Northeastern in Boston, Massachusetts. The only Commonwealth the Tigers will not play in this season is Kentucky.
Opposite Sides of the Country
Two freshmen will join the Tigers in 2017 with Afton Kalkoske and Hannah Warner matriculating to Towson this fall. Despite sharing a class, the pair have an entire country between their hometowns. Warner hails from nearby Bel Air, Maryland, roughly 20 miles from campus. Kalkoske arrived in the Greater Baltimore area from La Quinta, California, some 2,600 miles from Towson University.
Free Clinic: Monday, Oct. 9
Looking for something to do with the kids on Monday, Oct. 9 while schools are out? Fear not! Towson women's soccer has the solution.
On Columbus Day, the Tigers will host a free youth clinic for kids from kindergarten to eighth grade. The clinic will be held at the Tiger Soccer Complex from 9 a.m. until noon.
How much is the youth clinic? It's FREE to those who attend a home game between Sunday, Aug. 20 and Oct. 5. That's eight chances to register with Towson's fan development at all the Tigers' home games.
Can't make it to a game but still want to attend? The Tigers are asking a $10 donation to the program in lieu of attendance at any game this season.
