LORETTO, Pa. – For the second time in the last four games, Towson University sophomore kicker
Aidan O'Neill kicked a game-winning field goal. This time his 42-yard field goal gave the Tigers a thrilling 16-14 victory over Saint Francis Saturday evening at DeGol Field.
How it Happened
- After SFU (2-1) took the lead with a touchdown with 2:24 left to play, the Tigers took over on their own 16-yard line.
- Quarterback Ryan Stover converted four-straight passes to get the Tigers out to the 41.
- Back-to-back completions to Jabari Greenwood and Nick Gray covered 24 yards to get the Tigers into Red Flash territory.
- A targeting penalty on SFU gave the Tigers a first down, and the Tigers followed it up with a 15-yard completion from Stover to Greenwood down to the 21-yard line.
- After the Tigers took a knee to set up O'Neil in the middle of the field, the sophomore calmly stepped into the 42-yard field goal and split the uprights.
- The Tigers (2-1) defense made the first big play of the game as Diondre Wallace forced a fumble on the opening series that was recovered by Zain Harps Upshur.
- Unfortunately, the Tigers turned the ball over on downs near the goaline.
- The Tigers offense managed to move the ball the entire first half, but turned the ball over on three-straight possessions in Red Flash territory.
- The Red Flash were able to turn the first turnover into a three-yard touchdown pass to Kamron Lewis.
- Towson got on the board midway through the third quarter as they put together an eight-play drive that ended with a 33-yard field goal off the leg of O'Neill.
- Stover helped engineer another scoring drive as he kept the ball around right end and went down the sideline for 31 yards. A late hit on the play moved the ball down to the 11.
- Three plays later, freshman Adrian Feliz-Platt found the endzone from six yards out for his first career touchdown.
- Towson extended its lead on the next series as they took 5:40 off the clock to extend the lead to 13-7 on a 38-yard field goal from O'Neill.
- The Red Flash hit a 56-yard pass play over the middle to set up the second TD reception from Lewis to give SFU the 14-13 lead.
