Tigers Fall to American in D.C.

BOX SCORE WASHINGTON, D.C. - Friday afternoon the Towson University field hockey team took a trip down I-95 to face American in the nation's capital. The Eagles came out on top 7-0 on their home turf. The Tigers fall to 1-12 on the year while American improves to 7-4.

How It Happened
  • In the first 17 minutes neither team saw the back of the net and both teams recorded just one shot, seemingly good momentum for the Towson defense entering a road game against a talented opponent.
  • The Eagles broke the silence in the 17th minute off a penalty corner input. The home team would go on to score two more goals in the next five minutes and take a 3-0 lead into halftime.
  • The Tigers had two shots and one corner in the first period while American had five shots recorded and two corners.
  • Four minutes into the second period the Eagles struck again extending the lead to 4-0.
  • Following the fourth goal from American, the road team's defense continued to hold them without goals until the 53rd minute.
  • The Eagles scored their final three goals within 14 minutes, their final coming in the 67th.
  • Towson saw another opportunity in the second period with a shot that was saved.
  • Freshman Olivia Blasone also had an opportunity as she closed into the goal but her attempt was deflected before she could even take the shot.
Behind the Numbers
  • Both Tiger goalkeepers saw time in the net today, totaling five saves.
  • American finished with 12 shots to Towson's three. Senior co-captain Katie McNeel led the way with two shots including one on goal while Jessica Florenzo had a shot on goal as well.
  • The Tigers had just one penalty corner today while the Eagles had nine, which the home team scored four times from.
