EMMITSBURG, Md. – Saturday afternoon did not fare well for the Towson University women's basketball team that was looking for its fourth-straight win. The Tigers fell to Mount St. Mary's on the road, 86-78.
How it Happened
- For the first minute and 40 seconds, neither team scored and the pace of play was sluggish as both teams felt out the court.
- The Mountaineers broke the silence and then went on an 8-0 run, taking a solid lead just three minutes into the game.
- Towson's first points came from Janeen Camp and the road team fought to climb back into the game. A three-point bucket from Kionna Jeter five minutes in brought the Tigers within two of tying it up, before the Mount went on short runs to hold the lead.
- Leading by as many as 11 points in the first quarter, Mount St. Mary's shot 56.3 percent from the floor in the first.
- Towson fought hard in the second, coming within two points of tying once again, before the Mountaineers jumped to a nine point lead heading in to halftime.
- At the half, the Tigers had 37 total points led by Jeter who had 13, and Ryan Holder wasn't far behind with nine in the 13 minutes she played.
- Similar scenarios played out through the third quarter, Towson had two good free throws followed by a layup from Nukiya Mayo, cutting the lead to five, then just one minute later Mount St. Mary's was up by 12.
- The Mount took its biggest lead in the fourth period, ahead by 17 points, as the Tigers continued to battle.
- Jeter ended with another solid performance of 27 points, five rebounds and three steals, while Holder scored a season-high 19 with six boards, four steals, three blocks and two assists.
- Freshman Asilinn Flynn tied with Mayo and Holder for the team-high in rebounds as the trio all grabbed six each.
